Dubai The Federal National Council speaker has called on the Arab Parliamentary Union for a resolution condemning the murder of Mahmoud Al Mabhouh to show its solidarity with the UAE and bring the assassins to justice.

"The assassination is a flagrant violation of the UAE's sovereign unity, according to international law and international resolutions, which ban terrorist acts in a sovereign country," Abdul Aziz Al Gurair said in his address yesterday in Cairo. The murder is a "terrorist act that carries Israel's imprints".

Egyptian Speaker Dr. Ahmad Fathi Surour said the UAE has the right to sue Israel for committing state terrorism if its involvement is proved, a WAM report said.

"A state terrorism is of two kinds u direct and indirect. The direct terrorism occurs when a person carries out a criminal act in another country," he added.

Meanwhile, the chief of Dubai Police confirmed that it has not asked US authorities for assisting the investigation, asserting that the Central Bank is the only body that has contacted the banks used by the assassins.

Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim said the US had "no responsibility or involvement" in the murder.

Bill Carter, a spokesperson for the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, said the US had no jurisdiction over crimes that were committed in the UAE and therefore had "no reason" to investigate.

A Central Bank source told Gulf News that the bank is in contact with "the issuers of the cards" to identify cardholders' identities and the sources of their funds.
