Store will supply Laura Ashley.

A LAURA Ashley shop sign has triggered excitement in a North Wales town that is working to regenerate itself after years of decline.

Colwyn Bay has struggled to attract or retain major retailers but the erection of a sign from the upmarket chain Laura Ashley has sparked hopes the town centre is on the road to recovery.

The Daily Post has discovered the brand itself is not opening but a kitchen, bedroom and bathroom store named JKD is coming, with a deal with Laura Ashley to supply its products.

Antony Williams, who has run Just Kitchens and Bedrooms in Rhyl for 20 years, said the arrival of the new Conwy council offices was behind the decision.

The offices will open in the autumn, bringing 700 staff into the centre of the town.

Mr Williams said: "Just over half the store will be dedicated to the Laura Ashley brand."
