Sssay hello to reptiles!

Byline: DAVE ROBSON

THEY'RE scaly, they hiss and they're cold-blooded to the core...

And this bank holiday weekend, they are descending on Kirkleatham Owl Centre.

The popular Redcar centre is hosting a special reptile weekend, offering visitors the chance to get up close and learn about a host of cold blooded creatures, including snakes, tortoises, beautiful geckos and fantastically coloured frogs!

The centre's Craig Wesson said: "We have a packed weekend in store with encounter sessions, keeper talks, crafts, and advice sessions, all with a cold blooded reptilian theme.

"With lots of people considering keeping reptiles as pets, our expert keepers and volunteers will be on hand to offer advice as well as having care sheets available for the more commonly kept species."

Star of the show could well be Tank the tegu - a huge species of lizard from South America.

Craig added: "Tank is one of our education animals; he regularly accompanies us on school visits - and he's huge!

"He's one of the biggest tegus we''ve ever seen, but this will be the first time visitors to the centre will have had the chance to meet him."

The reptiles are rolled out at 3.15pm, preceded by a daily flying display at 2.30pm and a meerkat feed and talk at 3pm.

Crafts, activities and care sheets and advice will also take place.
