Book publisher HarperCollins' non-fiction imprint William Collins has acquired world rights in all languages for a new edition of Sir David Attenborough's natural history title 'Life on Earth', literary news company The Bookseller revealed on Tuesday.

The updated edition was acquired for an undisclosed sum from Attenborough's representatives. The book will be published this autumn, nearly 40 years since the original book, which was adapted for a BBC TV series.

William Collins will update the title to "acknowledge the environmentally conscious world we now live in as well as the latest scientific research from around the globe". New photography will also be included to complement Attenborough's text.

Attenborough was quoted as saying: "This is the greatest story ever, the story of the development of life on earth. This new edition takes account of modern scientific discoveries and will be illustrated in a much greater and fuller way than we did nearly 40 years ago. I hope everyone enjoys it."
