“Schutzstaffel” The Nazi blackshirted bodyguard for Hitler founded in 1923 and commanded by Himmler from 1929. It acquired executive and military functions including elite Waffen-SS” regiments who were exempt from normal army control and “SS-Totenkopfverbande” who provided concentration camp guards.
