(5) Barratt suggests that the source of the manuscript may well have been his father, Gideon Algernon Mantell, a renowned English doctor, geologist, and palaeontologist who possessed a personal collection that is known to have included several medieval manuscripts.
In 1822 an English geologist, Gideon Algernon Mantell (1790-1852), uncovered the bones and teeth of a large animal and sent some of them to Cuvier (see 1798).
