ABU DHABI, 5th August, 2019 (WAM) -- Featuring some of the most notable names of the 20th century Avant-Garde scene, Louvre Abu Dhabi's upcoming exhibition, 'Rendezvous in Paris: Picasso, Chagall, Modigliani and Co.(1900-1939)', will include more than 80 works by artists including Pablo Picasso, Amedeo Modigliani, Marc Chagall, Juan Gris, Chaam Soutine,
Constantin Brancusi and Tamara de Lempicka.
The self-taught artist was revealed to have created numerous fakes, including statues said to have been made by artists Barbara Hepworth,
Constantin Brancusi, Henry Moore and Man Ray.
United States (6) which centred on a work by the Romanian sculptor,
Constantin Brancusi, Bird in Space.
One piece, dedicated to
Constantin Brancusi, depicts a haggard face emerging from an egg-shaped metal cage and so borrows the Romanian sculptor's practice of carving faces onto egg-shaped stone.
Similar exhibitions were done before in 1988 by the Museum of Modern Art, New York in 1988 and accompanied by William Rubin's catalogue, 'The Primitivism of Modern Art,' and in 2009 by the Fondation Bayeler in Riehen/Basel titled 'Visual Encounters, Africa, Oceanic, and Modern Art,' which showed tribal masterpieces alongside works of Vincent van Gogh, Paul Cezanne, Wassily Kandisnky, Rousseau,
Constantin Brancusi, Henri Matisse, Piet Mondrian and Mark Rothko.
