Pictomancer is a casting job in Final Fantasy 14, introduced alongside the Dawntrail expansion. Using a magicked brush and palette, players can paint their spells to deal damage.

This magical ranged DPS cannot resurrect allies the way that Red Mages and Summoners can, but they can buff their allies and move quickly using a magical dash.

Below, we explain what you need to do to unlock Pictomancer in FFXIV.

Where to unlock Pictomancer in FFXIV

Pictomancer unlocks via a quest in Old Gridania. Before you head there, you’ll want to make sure you have met the following prerequisites:

  • You have one combat job at level 80 or higher.
  • You own the Dawntrail expansion.

Once you meet those two requirements, head over to Old Gridania and talk to the Cheerless Hearer NPC at the location below to accept the quest “The Joy of Pictomancy.”

After finishing this quest, you’ll be able to equip your job stone and Pictomancer weapon to play as the new casting job.

While the quest will give you some passable gear, if you want to be suited up properly for your new journey, consider picking up Augmented Cryptlurker gear from Aymark in Eulmore or Mowen’s Merchant in the Crystarium in exchange for Allagan Tomestones of Poetics.
