Get Alexander, Warrior Jar unstuck from the ground — and stuck in your heart

Elden Ring players who thoroughly explore the starting area, Limgrave, will likely encounter one of the game’s most curious NPCs: Iron Fist Alexander, a large Living Jar who frequently gets his butt stuck in unlikely places. With this guide, you’ll be able to get him unstuck again and again — and find discover his ultimate fate.

Prepare to battle by Alexander’s side, get the iconic Jar helm, discover the well hidden town of Jarburg, help Diallos find purpose, and more.

Chapter 1: Help me! I’m stuck!

We’ll start at the beginning, but note that Alexander won’t appear at his first two locations if you’ve already started the festival at Redmane Castle. Skip ahead if you need to.

Step 1: Find Alexander in Limgrave

Alexander’s initial location is located in northern Limgrave, close to the Saintsbridge site of grace. As you approach, you’ll hear his cries for help.

Step 2: Get his butt unstuck

Thankfully, the Iron Fist’s predicament is not difficult to solve. Simply smack him in the backside a few times with any weapon and he’ll pop out. You’ll get the Triumphant Delight Gesture and a piece of Exalted Flesh, which is a slightly ominous reward for reasons that will make sense later.

Alexander will tell you about the Radahn Festival at Redmane Castle, but before you head that way, there’s another optional encounter with him in Caelid.

Step 3: Gael Tunnel

You’ll next meet Alexander waiting behind a door in Gael Tunnel, a dungeon on the border between Limgrave and Caelid. This encounter is optional, but through talking to the Great Jar, you’ll learn more about him — specifically, that he “was created to be a warrior vessel” and “many great warriors reside within” him.

You don’t know it right now, but he means that very, very literally.

By the way — you’ll also want to complete this dungeon while you’re here, as the reward is Moonveil, one of the best dexterity/intelligence weapons in the game.

Chapter 2: A Festival of Combat

Step 4: Defeat Radahn

If you missed talking to Alexander at his first two locations, the Warrior Jar will still attend Radahn’s Festival at Redmane Castle. You can speak to him in the courtyard before the fight and summon him during the battle; his flailing arms and unwavering spirit should prove invaluable in the fight against Radahn.

While we’re here: Check out our guide to fighting Radahn if you need some help.

Step 5: Find Alexander in the aftermath

Afterward, you can find him among the dunes near the new Starscourge Radahn site of grace, where he’s eagerly devouring the corpses of warriors who fell against Radahn in order to absorb their strength. Cool!

You have to exhaust Alexander’s dialogue here for him to move on to his next location, so keep speaking to him until he repeats himself, then warp to the Artist’s Shack in Liurnia.

Chapter 3: The Wandering Jar

Step 6: Stuck again

Alexander’s next location is in eastern Liurnia, just south of the Carian Study Hall. You can easily ride there from the Artist’s Shack (the one in Lirunia). The Great Jar Warrior is stuck once again; this time, he’s jammed so firmly in the ground that you’ll need to use a bit of lube to get him out.

Toss an oil pot at him, then whack away using strong attacks with your heaviest weapon and he should come unstuck in no time. If you don’t have any oil pots, go buy the Nomadic Warrior’s Cookbook [17] from the merchant in Siofra River to gain the ability to craft them.

As a reward for getting him unstuck yet again, Alexander gives you Exalted Flesh x3, as well as the Triumphant Delight gesture if you missed Alexander at his Limgrave location.

Step 7: A detour to Jarburg

During the Liurnia encounter, Alexander will inform you that he was gazing down at his home from the top of the nearby cliff. Make your way there by hopping down the ruins jutting from the cliffside, and you’ll find Jarburg, a village of Living Jars.

There, you can speak with Alexander’s nephew, Jar Bairn, a much smaller jar-person found sitting on some stairs on the village’s western side. Exhaust his dialogue, which requires reloading the area multiple times.

Step 8: Find Alexander on Mt. Gelmir

You’ll next encounter Iron Fist Alexander on Mt. Gelmir, near Fort Laiedd and the Seethewater Terminus site of grace. He’s soaking in the lava near the Magma Wyrm’s spawn point. You’ll want to defeat the boss before attempting to speak with him.

Here, Alexander will give you the Jar Helm, a highly memeable bit of headwear that resembles an upturned jar. He’ll also hint at his next location: Mountaintop of the Giants.

Step 9: Another detour

At this point, if you haven’t yet been to Volcano Manor, you’ll want to head there and defeat Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy. You can either complete the assassination missions for Tanith, or explore the Prison Town legacy dungeon and reach Rykard on your own. Use our Volcano Manor guide if you’d like a little help.

Throughout your time in the Manor, speak with Diallos in the drawing room as often as you can, and check in with him again once you’ve defeated the boss. When he leaves the Manor, you’ll find him in Jarburg, in a shack on the northeast side of town; speak with him there, and chat with Jar Bairn some more as well, reloading the area multiple times as these NPCs move around.

Don’t worry, there’s a reason we’re doing all of this.

Chapter 4: A Duel of Fate

Step 10: Defeat the Fire Giant

You can’t speak to Alexander on the Mountaintop, but you can summon him to help you in the fight against the Fire Giant. His summon sign appears after the boss fog gate.

Step 11: Find Alexander in Crumbling Farum Azula

Lastly, you’ll find Alexander for the final time in Crumbling Farum Azula. He’s located on a flat piece of ruins past the courtyard full of skeleton enemies near the Dragon Temple Lift site of grace (which itself is found beyond a Stonesword Key fog gate).

There, Alexander will challenge you to a duel. Win, and he’ll bequeath you Alexander’s Innards, a key item, and Shard of Alexander, a talisman that increases the damage you cause with Ash of War skills.

Step 12: Back to Jarburg again

To complete this quest, head back to Jarburg and give Jar Bairn Alexander’s Innards. In order for the option to be available, you must have spoken with him and with Diallos in Jarburg enough times to see their story to their conclusion — that includes the village being attacked by a poacher, and Diallos dying to defend it. You’ll get Diallos’s Mask after reloading the area following the character’s death.

And, with that, the stories of Alexander, Diallos, and Jar Bairn all come to a close.

When you reload the area one last time after Jar Bairn’s departure, you’ll find the Companion Jar talisman, which increases the damage you cause with throwing pot items.

And with that, the stories of Alexander, Jar Bairn, Diallos, and the village of Jarburg have come to an end.
