Description

This is a Reshade Colour Correction preset which aims to enhance the visuals by improving 4 points:
  •  better and more realistic ambient occlusion and global illumination
  •  natural sky brightness, for both the nights and the days
  •  natural skin colours
  •  natural shadows

The Problem with the Game
Any lighting in the game, especially torches, "paint" their environment to orange/reddish colours instead of illuminating properly. Also, the game is darker when all the effects are enabled. And without the effects, it looks dull. Finally, I find in-game AO to be too dark and casting shadows on unnecessary places.

The Solution

So, after taking countless photos in a forest close to where I live I imported them into my PC and tried to calibrate the game's colours, contrast and brightness levels according to real-life examples. In order to replace AO, there are 2 choices: Reshade's famous Ray Traced Global Illuminaton - RTGI- and GloomAO. If you still want to use in-game AO, there is an option for that in the files, as well. I used 4 different screens to check if they all look identical and good. All screens were calibrated and the room was dimly lit.

Long story short, the game looks like it is captured with a phone camera: contrast is high with crashed blacks, skin shadows are too harsh and bloom may cover the entire screen at times. With this preset it looks like it is captured with a professional camera, with better dynamic range and more natural colours.

You may find the comparison pictures in the pictures tab.

Installation

In the zip file there are 3 presets, they are identical. Only difference is the AO choice. If you want to use it with Marty McFly's RTGI shader, you have to be a patreon and buy it first. Once you place the RTGI shader in the shaders folder the preset will pick it up and apply the settings automatically.

If you want you can buy Marty McFly's Ray Tracing shader with this link

The preset has a minimal/moderate performance impact but if you use RTGI, it may eat up more FPS than you may want.

I tried to keep extra effects as subtle as possible but if you wish, you may use these key combinations for toggling individual effects:
  • Shift + 7 = toggles AO + IL, Colour Correction and Bloom (main part of the preset)
  • Shift + 8 = toggles screen effects, Chromatic Aberration, Film Grain and Deband.
  • Shift + 9 = toggles Sharpening
  • Shift + 0 = Perfect Perspective - A lens correction mod which slightly curves te screen.
