Humanity has reached for the stars.

The Kruger-Xinchao alcubierre drive has allowed us to reach worlds far
outside our own solar system and set up colonies. Terraforming flotillas
are now in their 6th generation and can render a barren planet, in the
habitable zone, fertile within less than half a century.

However, with our reach further than ever, with more resources than we
could possibly need, we where still dying. A sickness grew within us,
a remnant from our dark past as a violent, self destructive race.

The great wars and ecological fallout of the 22nd century has left scars
deep within our genome we where not able to repair. Not able to heal.
Generation after generation we grew more and more sterile. Cloning programs
where launched in secret. We where able to clone life stock for centuries
but something got lost in the attempt to create human life out of the
remaining, undamaged samples we had left.

Clones where sickly, frail and never matured beyond the intellectual age
of a 4 year old child. It became clear that the body can not live without
the soul, that the mind can not expand without conciousness.
Facing extinction, we kept on traveling through the stars.

Until we found it.

A spore like network on an exo-planet far away from the Sol system. A plant
like organism capable of capturing the conciousnesses of the deceased shorty
after death. It took us nearly a century to understand and cultivate this plant
but we found a way to extract individual conciousness and transfer it to
a clone body. The Atropos System was born and quickly became the most vital
aspect of human life and culture.

But it was not ours to take.

The Raqni, a militarized species of alien life, attacked our outer colonies
shortly after we deployed the spectral nodes to all major systems.

Now, it is all out war. We fight for our survival.
