Taking things less personally at work is easier said than done, but here are some tips: ✅ Remember, it's not a reflection of you as a person. ✅ Focus more on yourself than other people. ✅ It's ok if not everyone likes you. ✅ Be less sensitive to disapproval of others. "Center [yourself] more in terms of, what are my needs? What do I think? What's my view of the situation? How do I feel about it? Instead of just looking to others," says Beatrice Chestnut, psychotherapist and Enneagram coach. What do you prefer – continual feedback or an annual review? Aditi Javeri Gokhale, Strategic Advisor at Northwestern Mutual, prefers continual feedback. She said in the beginning it was “annoying” getting feedback almost instantly after a presentation or meeting, but she came to appreciate it. “It was very important to get it in that context because you're able to internalize it. That’s something I do with my team, but I do it based on the fact that I've built that trust and I've built that mutual respect,” she told LinkedIn News at the Milken Institute Global Conference. Gokhale says when giving feedback, she makes sure she’s incredibly specific, gives proper context, and also provides examples to her team. #MIGlobal

One-size-fits-all policies don’t always work. “At work, it's work culture,” says Hello Monday Host Jessi Hempel, “but the truth is we're all coming in shaped by very different roles and very different cultures.” “It can be hard if you're always at the center to really understand,” says author Sebene Selassie, because “Often the people who are at the center of a dominant culture [are] looking in from their vantage point on these concentric circles.” What’s the best way for companies to incorporate different perspectives? “In order to *become* a Grandmaster, you must first *be* a grandmaster.” When Chess Grandmaster Maurice Ashley first received this advice after a big loss, he had no idea what it meant. He came to understand, and it led him to the title he’d always dreamed of. “Know you have to walk into the game with the kind of confidence and swagger, and even arrogance, self belief, that whatever comes up, you’ll make any decision necessary to go right into the brawl,” he said. “You know that you have all the skills to fight your way out.” Ashley, the first Black International Grandmaster of Chess, says when he embodied this mindset, the title came naturally because he was already “doing the things that led to that title.” What’s one piece of advice you’ve received that’s directly related to your success?
