Please join us on Tuesday, August 6 at DACOR and DACOR Bacon House Foundation for a luncheon program in observance of the U.S. and #France sharing intertwined bicentennial celebrations: General Lafayette’s Farewell Tour of the United States, and completion of what is today known as the DACOR Bacon House, in the “President’s Neighborhood.” The builder and owner of the House, U.S. Marshal for the District of Columbia Tench Ringgold, had the honor of introducing General Lafayette to President James Monroe in 1824, and accompanied Lafayette on several stops of his U.S. Tour, including an1825 visit with ex-President Monroe at Oak Hill, Monroe’s home near Leesburg, Virginia, and introduced him to the new President, John Quincy Adams. For more than 200 years since, France and the United States have conducted a remarkable #alliance built on shared values, trust and support through times of peace and war, economic strife, and plenty. Our program’s speakers will put the relationship in perspective, beginning with DACOR historian Terry Walz’s account of Tench Ringgold’s role in Lafayette’s tour, continuing with a verbal sketch of Lafayette’s stature in the U.S. and in France by Julien P. Icher, founder of “The Lafayette Trail,” and culminating in a review of Franco-American relations by France’s Ambassador to the United States, H.E. Laurent Bili. DACOR’s Honorary Bicentennial Chair, Ambassador Thomas Shannon, former Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, will set the stage for the discussion. This remarkable event will officially kick off our 2025 #BicentennialCelebration programming. Please join our honored guests for an unforgettable immersive experience. Please note this is a #hybrid event - you can attend in person or virtually. Registrations are required for all attendees. For in-person attendees, the event will run from 11:45 am - 2:15 pm and will include lunch. The live stream will begin shortly after 1:00 pm (virtual attendees will be sent a link for the event via email). Information on how to register can be found here: https://lnkd.in/gbSErpmU Laurent Bili is the Ambassador of France to the United States. Prior to his appointment in Washington, he was Ambassador to Thailand, Turkey, Brazil, and China. Julien P.
