The #Impact category of the Fast Company Innovation by Design Awards "honors designs, no matter how big or small, that have a major impact." We are on a mission to empower the millions of people with mobility differences to live more freely and independently, and to transform the landscape of #assistivetechnology as we know it. Every day we are blown away by the stories of progress and meaningful outcomes the CIONIC community experiences with the #NeuralSleeve. We've seen that this impact comes in all shapes and sizes - whether it's rising to a challenge at work, returning to a beloved trail that was inaccessible for years, surpassing a mobility milestone, or dancing with a child on their wedding day - it is these moments that are so meaningful for our team and that propel our mission forward. We are in great company - congratulations to the finalists and honorees in this category who are doing so much to transform the world for the better: Amprius Technologies, Inc. Bärí A. Williams wrote a great piece for Fast Company today. In it she shares her connection and shared past with Harris as well as how Black women often only get a chance to lead in times of crisis (aka: the glass cliff). As Williams says: "This phenomenon results in disproportionate blame and criticism, higher rates of failure, and damage to their professional reputation. Navigating just one of those workplace obstacle courses is like running blindfolded through a barbed-wire maze, let alone navigating all three elements at once." Read the article for her personal story of dealing with the glass cliff during her time at Facebook, what it was like to be on Sunday night's call with 44,000 Black women, and more.
Kamala Harris is standing at the edge of a glass cliff. As a Black woman, I've been there too

I’ve worn the future. And it’s a pair of robot pants from Skip and Arc'teryx - Earlier this month, I became the first journalist to test the long-teased exoskeleton that spun out of Google X. Called MO/GO (for “mountain goat”), it’s 7lbs of electronic legs, bracers, and an integrated pant that makes walking about half as difficult - I’m talking taking a thousand stairs, two at a time, and needing to catch my breath only once. When I was done, my heartrate was pretty normal - The project was developed by the startup Skip in conjunction with Arc’teryx, which offered their experience with high performance outdoor textiles and latching systems. While it felt a little bulky to put on, I was surprised how subtle the system looked when donned - MO/GO automatically recognizes your motions through AI to support your movements while promising to adjust to your gait over time, and you can crank up or down assistance just by hitting an up or down button - If that UX sounds a lot like an ebike, that’s because it is! It’s the foundational metaphor behind the project. There’s so much potential as an assistive device, but for now they’re focused on hikers—people already used to juggling equipment who would use MO/GO more recreationally than dependently - The device is available for preorder today to ship before end of year, but the team will enter a public beta to collect lots more data on how people move before release So what’s it actually feel like to wear? I have 2,000 words on that topic. Read my full story below where you can see the full video https://lnkd.in/gNiTQk_V
