How can you ensure that your 3D modeling software is user-friendly and easy to learn?

When we talk about reducing risk on the project by using 3D Modelling, it will bring greater value if 3D modelling is integrated with schedule to make it 4DMS which will give you correct projections in terms of schedule and further integrating the same with Cost to make it 5DMS ( or full BIM) will help in anticipating risks much in advance ( both in terms of overall schedule and project cost) and accordingly corrective actions or course correction can be initiated. Its time that industry move on to adapt these technologies at rapid pace.

3D modelling is like a simulator through which the client & all stakeholders understand the final result well in advance.It gives flexibility in advance for applying different ideas & carrying out trials.This helps in reducing Last moment surprises, reducing risk on projects where the client invests million- billions of dollars.Same 3d model can be useful for revamping any plants for increasing its capacity.

In my experience, the first feature that a user of a 3D modeler will encounter is the processing and rendering speed. Moreover, software should have straightforward instructions and commands. One should be able to model a complicated shape using visual commands and buttons that are easily accessible.

One could not forget the importance of icons and its interpretation for the users. UI designers need to conduct study and at least discuss with users sample to know what communicates best to its user base. Layout comes second as this will affect the workflow of the tasks. Rapid or recurring menus and icons locations should be in glance view of the users.

User Interface must be well laid out. Access to Functions & Grouping of commands must be logical and easy to understand. There must be a good comprehensive user manual and training modules created to aid the learning curve of adoptation. Must have on-demand technical assistance to resolve software issues.

User interface can be simplify by using minimalist & dropdown methods (Sections), which helps software to improve performance without create lag.

3D Model Progress Reporting System:- should be given an uppermost consideration to get the major benefit in project schedule. 1) For monitoring and Control the 3D model development, it is essential to establish a close knit system, wherein control is exercised at element level (I.e Equipment, Pipe Line , Civil Structure, Inline items and Cable trays etc.) to know at any point of time the status of modeling activity at line level. 2) The Status of model is updated on daily basis to ensure total control over model development 3) Also identification of problems for pre-emptive corrective action.

- Must create the detailed documentation with representation by using React.js which helps user if they stuck somewhere. - Whenever user hover some command it will show the what those tools expect to do.

In my experience we can optimise your performance with inbuilt automation for example using skeleton modeling increases and optimises user performance

- any diagnostic features when running the simulation other than Task Manager when simulations take longer. - any limitation of the software need to be highlighted upfront i.e. coverage area, number or equipment/ devices and etc.

Agree with this. The bulk of modellers use basic commands, extrude, revolve, sweep, etc. with the occasional side track to the parametric or more advanced side of modelling. Ensure the basic side works 100% perfect and you will satisfy most of your users.

We can optimize the performance by doing simulation in Asynchronous manner, Which lead to less time consuming & perform multi task at same time.

In my experience testing people test 3D modeling software with no other user software installed so we don’t know interface with other software which make them work slow or behave odd. So involving user is best way to test and get feedback

Perhaps when reviewing 3D model it's best captured all d comments within d software itself rather than other means. This can reduce misscommunications and ensuring all user concerns is captured by the designer.

Monitor the user forums, and actively participate in discussions. Nothing frustrates a user like the feeling that the software company is at a distance.

After using 3 very popular 3d programs in my career I can say with confidence that the difficulty of using any 3d software increases with complexity of the product. The more demanding your product is because of its features, geometries, standards etc the harder it will be to make the model and as your model gets more and more complex your software will have more difficulties and more errors will occur during 3d model rebuild that you will have to fix. Anyone can learn to make a metal cube with a couple of holes, chamfers and similar. A lot less people can make a toolable parametric automobile dashboard carrier with mounting geometries that follows a customer A surface. And no user interface will assist you there, thats all on you.

- any codes/ standards to be referred when develop the 3D model - eg. Fire and Gas Mapping shall adhere to NFPA, BS and local authority requirement when developingvthe 3D model. - standard practice and guideline in installation of cable tray and segregation of power and control/ signals cable. - room for improvement of design module for 3D Model i.e. outddor/ field application to indoor/ control room/ building applications.

User friendly software: 3D software has 2 types; for designing and viewing. Owner, management, checkers view models from software different from 3D modeller. Modeller may not be designer and work under a supervision of a designer. Hence, my view of user friendly software is it should be able to help user to easily manoeuvre to walk through the 3D model. Appreciate if there could be View tab showing different default views for user to start with and a good Search engine to bring users' view straight to the item of interest. Also software is able to highlight clashed items. Make copying and moving fast and accurate by changing the coordinates of item from its detailed panel without giving a new command to move from command prompt.

Contact with the user is key here. Whether it is during feedback session, while training them to use the software or when getting questions about it. All this interaction should lead to new ideas on how to improve your software.
