You’re an engineer looking for the best 3D modeling software. How do you find the perfect fit?

I started off modeling with Autodesk 3ds max and I’ve used it for more than 13 years now, I find it really efficient for modeling I guess that’s due to the years of work experience. Thats has also made using other modeling packages smoother for me as I just need to figure out where the tools are. I use Unity’s pro builder a-lot as well for smaller modeling tasks when I’m working on games or RT3D. But in recent years I’ve seen more people use blender and the package has a lot of add ons to ease modeling processes, most importantly blender is open source and continues to grow and improve. I intend to give blender a chance as well.

It all depends on the Project or need. If design is more structural , needs accuracy and then need post production Then go for CAD , 3D modelling+animation and any post production S/w. But if the design is Fantasy - 3d modelling app should suffice but can also use any EFX app. Ease of Use including import/export , formats, etc must also be considered.

With the changes in recent years Blender 3d is a compelling open-source option most of the features in paid softwares are within Blender even if it’s not there yet you have the option to add it yourself!

Before 2.8 the Blender UI was firmly of the kind that only the authors and similar power-fiddlers could stand. Since then they’ve been on a roll and today there is much less reason to pay an Autodesk tax just to have competent tools.
