Once a great fan of Eugenio Montale I found this book to be unsatisfactory and not worth my valuable time. I did suffer through a large percentage of it but finally had to let it go. Disappointing to say the least.

There really is no other writer like Jon Fosse. He is an original. Yes, many writers do repeat like Fosse and digress as well, but there is something original and authentic in what he says.

M. Sarki Goodreads for some reason removed all my friends. I am having to add them back individually. Sorry. Add me back as friend if you wish.

message 25: by M.

M. Sarki I have recently become aware that many of my previously written reviews are disappearing from goodreads. Has that happened often to others? Irritating and disheartening.

M. Sarki Mike wrote: "You're probably already aware of this, but in case you're not: Ken Sparling begins his Foreward to Mario Bellatin's Chinese Checkers: Three Fictions with the line, "The poet, M. Sark..."

Nope. Was not aware of that. Sparling is a treat of a man. And he never let me know. Thanks Mike. Hope you are well. Up at my cabin in northern Michigan. Perfect weather up here.

Jimmy Hi M! I started a thread over on my group Listomania for GR people to post their favorite reads of 2013... I'd love to see your list, if you have a chance: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

message 20: by Dolors

Dolors More than delighted to receive your friend request, M! I am honored!
I had also noticed your comments and your name as an author.
And I know that my question is an impossible to answer to, I wouldn't be able to do it myself, but it's one of the best ways of discovering unknown literary gems, like the one you've mentioned to me today. Thank you!

Thanks Nathan. I saw this yesterday and read it, most of it, and though I am glad smart people are talking about Gordon Lish I am not sure they are the right people. David Winters I know for sure is, but the others, not so. But then again, what do I know?

I totally agree. Hope goodreads gets it together. I would hate to see this "community" get dismantled.

message 15: by Jimmy

Jimmy Yeah "not attacking the author" is a good general rule, but should be self-enforced by members... the community generally has a good feel for what is appropriate and what is not. Sometimes attacking the author is exactly what's called for. Common sense is needed when evaluating this, and on a case by case basis... Any set in stone across-the-board rule about this, enforced from on high, is bound to misfire.

All right. Thanks. I guess I get the gist of things. Some of the rules I do agree with as I do not think being demeaning or calling an author or reviewer names is very good. But an asshole is an asshole and I am troubled a bit if we can't even use that word anymore to describe say an author like David Shields, for example. His words on the page matter and they are clearly are written by and as an asshole in more than enough cases and that is a fact that needs to be pointed out. But that is just my opinion. Because he is a darling and a star in some circles is no reason to protect him. But perhaps big daddy amazon.com has something to do with all this?

Jimmy M! Yes, it's all a bit confusing isn't it?

Thankfully Kris made a very informative summary post here: http://www.goodreads.com/user_status/...

See message 3, in particular (in the comments)... that should explain everything that's been going down in the last few days.

M. Sarki Megha wrote: "So who are Gordon and ray?"

Ah, but that would ruin the question. See some of the latest comments in my update feed and you will figure it out. Or even a book I have reviewed just lately. They are both mentioned often in my work.
