Pink | 6554 comments A-Z Author Challenge 2016

The challenge is to read 26 books, by 26 different authors, one for each letter of the alphabet.

The books can be any genre or publication date and you may use the author's first name or surname (and I guess middle name if you're really struggling!)

Only books read between January 1st - December 31st 2016 can be included.

This is our third year of A-Z challenges and I think they're great fun, so I hope you'll join us in 2016 whether you're old or new to them.

This challenge can be used in conjunction with all of our other challenges. So you can double up and use the same book for as many as you like!

NOTE: When posting advancements on your challenge, please copy and re-post your original selections with your changes or post the original message number so interested members can follow your progress.

Since our first year 2014 I have failed to complete this challenge. At the end of 2014 I was short letters Q, U, X, & Y. This year I will be short the letters Q, X, & Y. So I have done some sleuthing into other challenges and have "borrowed" several ideas for the missing letters of the last two years. The following authors are the ones I plan on researching to see if I can find an interesting read.

"Q"
Karen Quinn
Daniel Quinn
mathew quick
Pascale Quiviger

"U"
John Updike
Leon Uris
Sigrid Undset

"X"
Xinran

"Y"
Bill Yancey
Jane Yolen

Still looking for others.

message 18: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen | 5092 comments Here are a few that I found interesting while I was researching. (They didn't end up on my list because I'm looking for women authors for 2016)

"Q" Quinonez, Ernesto Bodega Dreams
"U" Upadhyay, Samrat Buddha's Orphans
"X" Xiaolong, Qiu Death of a Red Heroine
"Y" Yerby, Frank Goat Song

What I love about these challenges is they've helped me find books I would never have looked at otherwise!

Did you look here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...

There's about 8 authors just un X whose works may also be found at www.gutenberg.org (I think that's the library website). There are also all letters of the alphabet listed on this webpage. You could possibly find them in audio too but I don't remember seeing them.

You can do the same search for men.

I've finished my sixth book and already have two duplicates. "C" Willa Cather and Albert Camus. "M" Caroline Miller and Toni Morrison. It's the duplicating that makes these A-Z Challenges so difficult to complete.

My list

Dave (adh3) | 988 comments Since I'm feeling my oats and in a risk-taking mood I'm putting more book chips on the pile, I'm starting up this and the AZ Title challenge.too. Are we allowed to use the same book on both challenges i,e PP in P on Title and Austin in A on Author?

Exactly...some letters are so easy to fill and others you have to be watching for all the time.
