After finishing Twisted Hearts, I was rather unsure if I want to read this book or continue with this whole series. (Well, not a series what is it even? Since we had two series and now a stand-alone.)
But then I thought that I sort of liked the little glimpses we got on Guilia and Cassio in the Camorra series, so, yeah, I decided to read it.

(Why do I have a feeling that it's pretty obvious what I'm going to say about this book since I started this review with this "Explanation"?)

Anyway, I really liked the first third. It was fun, and I thought "redemption"! Guilia was super fun, one of the best female characters in this whole... thing. She knew who she was; she had personality, hobbies (I'll get more to that later), personal style and opinion.
I enjoyed the push and pull between her and Cassio. It was interesting to see how they would make this work. Plus the situation (Cassio already having two kids) was so different from all the other books in the previous series. It was just the shiny new thing.
Don't get me wrong; I was annoyed by Cassio's behaviour but... at least was not as bland as for the rest of the book.

And the thing I need to say here is that I thought that I disliked Guilia's parents in Kiara's books but let me tell you now that I'm 100 % sure that I cannot stand them even a bit.

But then it started to drag. For multiple reasons.

And the biggest one was that I was not feeling Guilia and Cassio; I did not feel any chemistry between them. In the first third, maybe a bit but then for the rest of the book? No, nothing.
Plus he still kept thinking about her as a child and teen which was killing any chance for some chemistry. And every time he called her "honey"... I just could not, it felt so weird and not fitting.

For me, this is not Guilia's and Cassio's book. It's Guilia's and Cassio's children's book. Because this was a story about how Cassio got the perfect nanny for his kids. You see, she never really held a child before but same for one child crying the first time she held her and the second one acting a bit aggressively the next day she's Mary Poppins! She even got a previously untrained (and clearly neglected) dog to listen to her commands!
Anyway, I do not get what the huge deal was that Cassio needed a wife to care for his children. He just needed a better staff. Like, what sort of staff who cares for the kids was just so bad that they did not go shopping for six months to buy the children new clothes which fits them. (Well, actually only the two-year-old boy had small clothes, somehow the infant had appropriately sized clothes.) You don't need a wife to buy clothes for your children, just get a better staff!

So, Cassio. He's a major idiot. His obsessive and controlling behaviour was way too much. I secretly hoped that Guilia would set all the clothes he wanted her to wear on fire.
Everybody, including Cassio, kept saying how cruel Cassio is but the problem is that we did not really get to see it. Since there was almost no "mafia business" in this book we did not get to see Cassio in working mode and therefore it was just the talk, he certainly did not do the walk.
So, and now to the big plot-twist! (view spoiler)

Now to Guilia's hobbies I mentioned earlier. She mentions liking Pilates but not once in the whole book she's seen exercising.
She loves to paint; she brought canvases with her. She sets up a studio and paints once. When she moves in, she mentions adding colour to the kids' rooms, and I expected her to have a bonding scene with the kids where they paint on the walls. Which would totally fit the story and her hobbies would be more than just a farce.

The book ends with a nine years time jump which disconnects the story and the characters. At the moment I found it boring and just dragging.

As for the rating, I'm going to leave it at three stars (rather weak) and only because I rated the Twisted Hearts two stars. And despite my problems with this book, Twisted Hearts was just way worse.

Honestly? After a few days, I feel like the 9-year jump was to make this book a bit more about Guilia and Cassio, to make her a bit more of a wife than just a nanny. Plus to add some drama because if you take out the 9-years later part not much happened.

Yeah, TH was so bad - but I sort of forgot about it and while reading this it came back. 😂

I don't think it worked, it was pretty much still about their kids 😂

Haha, yeah, true... It was an attempt but yeah, no. Guilia and Cassio had more chemistry when they were just mentioned in Kiara's books.
This is just Mary Poppins with benefits.

I don't have a problem with the term "honey" per se but... it just did not fit the characters at all. It felt sort of ironic?

Ray Yes! Thank you
I really liked it at first and right in the 2/3 I started skipping pages, especially the parts involving the kids.
I really don’t care.
This book had potential but sadly something went wrong.
Thank you for your review❤️

Exactly. It felt so forced and just... like I said as if he was mocking her. 🤷‍♀️ Total turn-off.

Yes! This!
The start was fun with the push and pull. But then it was just Guilia being the perfect nanny. 🤦‍♀️ I did not care. Like the scenes with the kids were cute but that's not why I'm reading these books. One or two would have been fine. Not 2/3 of the book basically Guilia being a nanny.
Yeah, the potential of the book went out of the window pretty fast. Pity. It seemed promising.

Antonella there is new series coming out...Mischa help...who the hell are Danilo and Sophia? I mixed everyone up!!

MischaS_ Antonella wrote: "there is new series coming out...Mischa help...who the hell are Danilo and Sophia? I mixed everyone up!!"

A new series? I thought that it would be just a bunch of standalones.
Sophia is Serafina's sister. And Danilo is Serafina's ex-fiance.

These books seem like one big series to me. Bc all the characters are so intertwined. I guess you can say they are standalone. Oooh, right I did think that would happen too. Sees that is going to be age gap then ...I remember now, she will think he is in love with her sister. Oh man, stop me from reading these same old books with just new names. It reminds me of the issues I have with Lauren Layne's books lately.

Yeah, very true that it could be all considered just one huge series to be honest.

Not sure about the age gap, but she was like 12? and he was over twenty. So, I would say at least ten years between them. 🤷‍♀️

What I see coming is that he won't be over Serafina, so, he will be punishing Sofia for what Serafina did and he will be super controlling.
And Sofia will be a bit broken because she probably spent ages trying to be like the perfect Ice Princess Serafina but failing. 🤷‍♀️

And same here, I need to stop reading these. Because honestly, yeah, The Camorra series started good but after Savio's book it went downhill and I don't think it will get any better.

But I want it to get better if you know what I mean. There is potential but somehow lost. It's just going in circles.

talk about being positive...we are nailing it..lol
I really want to finish Camorra chronicles series ...not sure to be honest, that I want to read about the kids...seems pointless...

I get you..these books are addicting but at one point we have to be fed up with it..

Haha, sooo true!
It's just... I want to read several of those books but I want them to be good. 🤦‍♀️ Plus even if they are declared as "standalone" there is still some kind of connection between those books.

The thing is - it seems like almost anyone stepping on the page is getting a book.

So now:
Dante/Val n°2 - I did not like their first book but sort of promised to a friend I would give them a chance. So, I have to read it.
Adamo/Dinara - I was excited for this one but now... not interested in Adamo being an ungrateful idiot.
Danilo/Sofia - can I say that I'm a bit iffy about him being engaged to her sister and actually liking/loving Serafina?
Nestore - that's one book I want to read
Stefano - I was interested in this one... but I sort of think it will just end up like Savio's book
Matteo/Giana n°2 - why? Unless they have an accident and Gianna ends up pregnant, I'm not sure what's this book about

Plus who else is getting a book? Val's brother? Serafina's brother?

And then you have the kids series which is strange to me because you know, the characters from this series will be old and everything. 🤷‍♀️
So, that will be:
Marcella - not decided if I'm interested in that book but after Savio's book, not really.
Amo/Greta - I could think about reading that one. Mostly because of Falcones.
Nevio - and hopefully not with Aurora that would be just awfully convenient.
Anna - not interested really
Leonas - same here but probably a bit more intrigued than by Anna's story
Then who else? Alessio? Massimo? Aurora if she's not with Nevio's girl? Carlotta (Gemma's sister)? Danilo? Simona? Plus some kids down the road - Savio's, Adamo's, Matteo's etc.?
I guess some of them will be paired together.

But that's a lot of books. And yeah, we already see a lot of repetitions and it just gets a bit tiring. And with that many books, it will probably happen more and more.

I'll still probably give it a chance and skipping some.

you know all their names...

I will read Adamo's book for sure.. other IDK now I say no but who knows...wait who is Nestore? I know but can't remember

Haha, I do. 😂 I'm quite good at remembering names. But here I cheated a bit, I just had a bit similar conversation with a friend and we tried to count all the possible books. 😂 So, it was not that hard. Because for the kids I keep forgetting half of their names half the time. Like, who's Sara? 😂

I'm not sure about Adamo's book. Depends how much of a hurt little brat he will play. 😂
Nestore had a little entrée in Savio's book where he... fought with someone. He seemed quite Remo-like.

I think Remo was one of her heroes that really stood out. All the others are a mix of each other.

Agreed. and not just the male characters... A lot of repetitions in these books.

But hey it took me like 10 books of disappointment from Anita Blake series before I realised and accepted that it was really time to let it go.

Antonella MischaS_ wrote: "Antonella wrote: "MischaS_ wrote: "Antonella wrote: "MischaS_ wrote: "Antonella wrote: "MischaS_ wrote: "Antonella wrote: "MischaS_ wrote: "Antonella wrote: "there is new series coming out...Mischa..."

You know I love Kate Daniels series ( 10 books and some short novellas) by Ilona Andrews, and I watched their interview and they were asked why did they decide to stop at 10 books they could write more? You know what they said...they said that sometimes is time to let go, but besides that, they didn't want to be repetitive, and they needed to explain certain thing in each book so it became a completion how to write about a certain thing in a new way.
And that is how I got it. Sometimes for the better of the books & the story author needs to put an end to it.

I don't know about Anita Blake, I haven't read her books.
But I had a similar reaction recently with Lauren Layne's books. Basically the same old stories & characters.

Totally! I so much respect authors who know where they should let it go. Despite the popularity. Better to leave at the top rather than milk it and in a way destroy the good things about that series.

Not a fan of the Daniels series but I have such a respect for the author that she knew when to end it!

As for Anita Blake, loved the series. And I believe I rated like the first 13/14 books pretty high. But being honest, it went south around book 6 or 8. And then the last I read was twenty-something. I took me that long to accept that the old Anita is never coming bad.

Oh, I do not believe I read anything by Lauren Layne.

But it is definitely not a problem of a few selected author. Many get stuck writing the same thing over and over. And often it's a pity because I think that if they tried for something new it could be brilliant.

Andrea Ha, your review is much more in depth but is essentially my feelings as well. Her being Super Nanny and curing the child's selective muteness and magically training the dog through force of will (because at no point did she use any actual training techniques) was over the top. I expected a certain level of that but her big time rebellion was...wearing sunflowers.

Oh, thank you for your comment. Huge YES to the nanny and super trainer. It was so annoying that she just KNEW and through sheer will, she just undid months of neglect or terrible trauma.

Hahah, so true. Same with her having hobbies, except one scene, it was just talk. 🤷‍♀️

Andrea This author has been so hit or miss for me, and honestly more miss than hit. I don't know why I keep reading them lol. There seems to be so much potential and then I get let down. The original series I started with I never even finished but I picked her back up with the Camorra Chronicles. I read through them mainly to get to Savio's book only to be kind of... not even disappointed. Almost disgusted? Somewhere in between, ha. I just can't quit punishing myself though.

Same for me... Hit or miss, unfortunately, more of the miss. And I have the same struggle, I keep reading these books in hopes I find another hit.
I was over the original series and then saw the Camorra one and skipped Fabiano's book - I was just reading it for Remo after his little appearance in the original series. And I adored the scenes just between the Falcones.
But yes, Savio's book, which I was excited for, was a real disappointment because - why? There was so many things wrong with it.
And then this one... was not even good but just better compared to Savio's book. 🤦‍♀️

MischaS_ Eyta wrote: "Hey there. I too didn’t feel the chemistry at first. But, I later realized it was because I was finding it hard to accept Gulia’s age, and that created unconscious bias."

Oh, interesting point... I don't think that I have a problem with Guillia's age... But maybe because Cassio kept saying that she was a child which was killing the chemistry?

Sara Regina When do you think is best to read this book? Like where does it fit best on the cammora/born in blood mafia timeline?

Sara Regina Camorra* sorry 🤭

MischaS_ Sara Regina wrote: "When do you think is best to read this book? Like where does it fit best on the cammora/born in blood mafia timeline?"

Hi, this is a bit of a "standalone". And I say people reading it with any knowledge of the other two series. But I personally think that reading the whole born series might be good to know who the characters who pop up here and there are. As for the Camorra one. Strictly it is not necessary. Twisted Emotions takes place after this book but I would not call it spoilerish in any way.

So, overall there is not a bad place to pick this up but me personally I would probably read it at least after Twisted Emotions even if already shows Guilia and Cassio as a couple (without any spoilers) but it helps to understand who the characters who are only mentioned are.

Mampi Cassio is 10 times better than Luca who cheats just after 2 days and then slutshames the women he sleeps with.Cassio was annoying in the beginning, but He was always clear what the marriage was all about and even when he thought Giulia will not be good to look after his kids and will not sleep with him again he still wasn't willing to let go of her.

MischaS_ Mampi wrote: "Cassio is 10 times better than Luca who cheats just after 2 days and then slutshames the women he sleeps with.Cassio was annoying in the beginning, but He was always clear what the marriage was all ..."

Not sure how Luca got here... don't believe I mentioned him in my review. If I did then, sorry, I must have missed the mention.
To be honest, I have my own share of problems with Luca. But this is not his book. And me having some issues with Luca's behaviour have no impact on having issues with Cassio's behaviour. 🤷‍♀️
Yeah, Cassio can get extra points on not cheating, still, I don't like his behaviour that much.

Janaína I love your review, I was expecting more of her hobbies too, like she only painted once, why? And Pilates? Pleaseeee.

But I really love your review and had good laugh with this, I gave 5 stars, but I'm in a mood for silly books.
