I'm an obsessive creator, whether it's writing or creating art.

I've opened an Etsy store for psychedelic art: http://j.mp/PsycheArt. Please consider purchasing my first print—a portrait of George Floyd. I'm donating ALL profits from sales to Black Lives Matter: https://bit.ly/HonorFloyd

I've been honored to be selected to have my art at the Baton Rouge Gallery - Center for Contemporary Art for two years running. The show is called Surreal Salon and the judge in 2018 was the brilliant Ron English and in 2019 was the amazing Camille Rose Garcia.

This mystery is such a mystery it's a mystery what it even is. It's the most mysterious of mysteries filled with mystery. In fact, I've named it Myster Mystery, and last I saw it my mystery was robbing banks in Mystery City. I guess I shouldn't have named it that because look what I started. But anywho, I am worried about Amazon, poor thing. But maybe if we all pool our mysteries together, we can help out our lil' buddy. I'll do my part. Probably. (less)

Jeff VanderMeer rates A Greater Monster
I am thunderstruck. One of my favorite authors, fantasy author Jeff VanderMeer, just rated A Greater Monster 4 stars on Goodreads. I thanked him on Twitter, and he said it was "...a really cool and unique read! Beautiful book, too, in the design."

Here's my review of VanderMeer's brilliant book Annihilation, part one of a new trilogy. Part two, Authority, was just released and is up next in my queu Read more of this blog post »

“Touching is just electrons repelling. Nothing can touch. Ever.”
David David Katzman, A Greater Monster

“It makes sense that your response to a bad break-up line would be to set someone on fire," I responded. "Fire is magical to us because it embodies the passage of time. We can never grasp time because it is invisible, unreachable and continually slipping from our grasp. Do we live in the present? How can we? The present is infinitesimally small. It can't contain human action. We teeter on the brink between our assumed future...where we will be in moments to come...and our memory of the past...where we think we just were. The present doesn't exist in a comprehensible way. Similarly, fire is something we can neither grasp nor touch, yet it has a clear effect...the decay and collapse of life, the acceleration of entropy. Thus when we stand mesmerized by fire, we are actually mesmerized by our own mortality.”
David David Katzman

“My biggest objection to Marxism has been the presumption that industry should exist at all. I think the unstoppable juggernaut which is global warming demonstrates that processing natural materials on an industrial scale is a suicidal practice.”
David David Katzman

“To the people who are upset about their hard-earned tax money going to things they don’t like: welcome to the f*cking club. Reimburse me for the Iraq war and oil subsidies, and diaphragms are on me!”
Jon Stewart

“Religion. It's given people hope in a world torn apart by religion.”
Jon Stewart

“Yes, the long war on Christianity. I pray that one day we may live in an America where Christians can worship freely! In broad daylight! Openly wearing the symbols of their religion... perhaps around their necks? And maybe -- dare I dream it? -- maybe one day there can be an openly Christian President. Or, perhaps, 43 of them. Consecutively.”
Jon Stewart

“If the events of September 11, 2001, have proven anything, it's that the terrorists can attack us, but they can't take away what makes us American -- our freedom, our liberty, our civil rights. No, only Attorney General John Ashcroft can do that.”
Jon Stewart

“It's funny. When we were alive we spent much of our time staring up at the cosmos and wondering what was out there. We were obsessed with the moon and whether we could one day visit it. The day we finally walked on it was celebrated worldwide as perhaps man's greatest achievement. But it was while we were there, gathering rocks from the moon's desolate landscape, that we looked up and caught a glimpse of just how incredible our own planet was. Its singular astonishing beauty. We called her Mother Earth. Because she gave birth to us, and then we sucked her dry.”
Jon Stewart, Earth (The Book): A Visitor's Guide to the Human Race

It's so nice to see other authors here who are all about books and book-reviewing, and not just about self-promoting! Here's to the love of reading!

BRB~~ stalking your shelves.

Madeleine Hullo there, new GR friend! Thank you for the friend request and your kind words -- here's hoping I'll be able to live up to whatever expectations ifer's set you up for. :)

We do see to have numerous overlapping books but differing opinions. I like that in people. But I like your favorite authors and the fact that you've read oodles of things I need to devour (Warped Passages, At Swim-Two-Birds, My Cousin, My Gastroenterologist, &c.) even more.

message 130: by Richard

Richard Lady Liberty is sure taking, um, liberties, ain't she? I guess she got tired of standing on that pedestal.

Anna (Bananas) *jealous* You met Mack? Kabuki was my first comics love. Fables is great but the first couple trades weren't amazing. Not sure which one you meant you'll review but I'd love to read either.

Anna (Bananas) You're reading Kabuki - I *adore David Mack. :)
And I've got to read your Canada/Portland writing. I left my heart in Portland.

David Katzman Apparently today is the birthday of Frank Zamboni, 1901. He's 112. But cryogenically frozen. In an ice rink.

Which leads me to my point ---> Death by Zamboni
