Hákon was born in Iceland in the year 1970. Six years later he wrote his first story. It was about a detective. A year later he took very early retirement from fiction writing to be able to read more.

Some twenty years later he intended to go to London to study photography, but due to his sense of direction, he ended up at the University of Iceland studying comparative literature. While there he started to write about cinema and literature, of which a few things got published.

Having found something he intended to make a career of, he started to write a book about cinema, but again, due to his sense of direction, he ended up writing more and more fiction instead. He doesn't have a great sense of direction, but hopes he is better at writing.

I've been thinking about it and am finding it a bit tricky to come up with a single answer because I have more than one favorite Icelandic novel, but there is one Icelandic writer that I keep coming back to, and that is Gyrðir Elíasson. He is a great writer who has written poetry, short stories, and novels. His work has a mood that is a mixture of melancholy and humor that I can somehow relate to very well. The underlying theme of a lot of his work has to do with nature, and our relationship with it. I've read most of his work, and regularly re-reading my favorites. So I think I have to say his novels are at the top of my list of favorite Icelandic novels. Best regards, Hákon.(less)

My first window into solarpunk

I have been getting more and more interested in solarpunk since I first came across it last year, so I guess it was just a matter of time before I tried my hand at writing one.

That story has now been published in a general online literature magazine called Litterateur. It is called "The Dimming Window" and is not just my first attempt at writing solarpunk, but also my second attempt at writing ch Read more of this blog post »

Will do! Actually, one other story I've written, though not set in Iceland, features the Norse gods and Norse mythology. That's mainstream and is called The Ragnarök Chronicles. :)

I'll let you know if I release the other short story set in Iceland in the New Year. :)

Best Wishes

Nicola

Hákon Gunnarsson Hæ Nicki,
I had a look at Northern Lights, and it looks interesting, but maybe not my genre. :-) If you publish the mainstream story I would appreciate if you would let me know. I might like to read that one.

Best regards,
Hákon.

Hæ Hákon.

So far only one of the two is published, and that is a MM (gay romance) short story called Northern Lights.

My other Icelandic story is mainstream fiction, but is not yet released. I may consider publishing it as a free read in 2017. If I do, I'll let you know. :)

I visited Reykjavik for the first time a year ago and loved it there. I've even set a couple of my stories in Iceland. :)

Hákon Gunnarsson And warmest greetings from Iceland. Thank you for accepting my friend request. All the best, Hákon.

Majenta WARMest greetings from Erie, Pennsylvania, USA all the way to Iceland! Thank you so much for contacting me. Happy Saturday, I hope you had a good week, are enjoying a great weekend, and will have a great week ahead! I love how you worded your biography! I feel like I too have taken early retirement from writing in order to read more! (And I did start writing--and reading--at a very young age, as well. Isn't it great!) Have a lovely and productive day. Blessings!
