King's 2018 novel, Island of the Mad, sees Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes travel from London's Bedlam to the glitter of Venice's Lido, where Young Things and the friends of Cole Porter pass Mussolini's Blackshirts in the streets. The Mary Russell/Sherlock Holmes series follows a brilliant young woman who becomes the student, then partner, of the great detective. “I crawled into my book and pulled the pages over my head...”
Laurie R. King

“I was fifteen when I first met Sherlock Holmes, fifteen years old with my nose in a book as I walked the Sussex Downs, and nearly stepped on him. In my defense I must say it was an engrossing book, and it was very rare to come across another person in that particular part of the world in that war year of 1915.”

Lisa I LOVED the "Beekeeping for Beginners" short! I liked being able to read a bit of their beginning through Sherlock's POV! Any plans to write more? :)

Sophia Thank you for accepting my friend request, Laurie! I just finished up Pirate King and Garment of Shadows which were my Christmas pressies from loving family. message 24: by Bre

Bre I had to dash to Barnes and Noble before it closed to get the 2nd book in your Holmes series! I imagine I got some looks crouching by the book shelf, (in typical Holmes on a mission pose) and hunting vigourously before I finally found it's hiding spot. The first one threw me into a time warp and I looked up and it was magically past 6 o clock. How did you manage to make Holmes so likable, yet keep his character so true? Thanks for accepting my friend request and for the great read! Brett is my favorite choice for Holmes too.

Stephanie OH wow, thank you for your friend invite! I am honored and touched to be your friend, here or anywhere! I really do love your novels, and cannot wait for more!

Janellyn51 Oh, and, I don't Twitter....If I did that on top of myspace and facebook...well, people might starve!

I must learn not to pre order on Amazon...They ask me if I want to, and in my bounding enthusiasm to have you latest book hot off the press....but not to have recieved it in time was a bit disapointing...next time it's indy bookseller for me! Anyway....OH BOY!

Jennifer Thanks for the invitation!

A friend of mine recommended Beekeeper's Apprentice last year after I went through a bad breakup, and though I went to it a bit grudgingly, I found the series a balm, and a beautifully built world in which to let my brain have a different kind of exercise than the usual post-split running in circles. Beekeeper's Apprentice especially was a repeated restorative for me, and is a familiar joy that I cheerfully turn back to now that life is on more of an even keel.

So thanks very much for that as well; I'm really looking forward to the next story.
