PS5 Pro leaks continue to trickle out what seems like every few weeks or so, and the latest focuses on the improvements to ray tracing the Pro model will have over the original. Ray tracing is one of the bigger factors in high-powered gaming machines due to the vast improvements it can bring to real-time lighting and reflections. The PS5 does a decent job with this, but judging from the leaked details the PS5 Pro will offer ray tracing that is substantially better.

In addition to the ray tracing improvements, the Pro console is said to render graphics at up to 45% faster than the standard PS5 you can currently buy in stores. Those are two pretty notable improvements. And if you don’t already own a PS5, the Pro sounds like the one to go for when it eventually launches. It might even be worth the upgrade for current PS5 owners. Depending on how much you value improvements to graphics and rendering speeds.

It goes without saying that these are still just rumors and not confirmed details by Sony. Nevertheless, the spec upgrades for the PS5 Pro do seem likely given where the leak comes from. According to Moore’s Law is Dead on YouTube, the PS5 Pro is codenamed “Trinity” which has leaked plenty of times in the past. This information is listed on a leaked document that also details other elements of the PS5 Pro. Including the ray tracing improvements.

The document states that there are three key feature upgrades. Higher GPU performance, faster ray tracing, and powerful machine learning architecture. With regards to the higher GPU performance, 45% faster rendering isn’t the only key component. The GPU is listed as larger and it’s said to use more system memory.

The ray tracing is where it gets a bit interesting as the documentation says it’s 2x – 3x faster. But in some cases, it’s been up to 4x faster. This is according to the source who leaked this documentation. Additionally, the PS5 Pro’s custom architecture for machine learning will help support the console’s upscaling and antialiasing solution. The AI-powered upscaling is something that’s been rumored before but without these particular details.

Future software updates could lead to support for up to 8K resolution

This is all based on the AI upscaling and the custom architecture. At launch, it’s being reported that the PS5 Pro will use this architecture for Spectral Super Resolution to provide generation of color buffers up to 4K. Another neat detail though is that the PS5 Pro is said to support Dynamic Input Resolution. This should allow Sony to produce better output resolution on games that use Dynamic Resolution by way of game updates. So in theory, you could have a game that ends up looking better a few months post-launch through the means of a simple patch.

Another part of the document also touts the superiority of PSSR. Sony is reportedly telling its partners that PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution technology is better and more powerful than AMD’s FSR2. It’s worth noting that this is what Sony is said to likely be telling partners. So there may be some bias there. But if the information is accurate, then there are exciting times ahead for PlayStation gamers.
