Samsung‘s Galaxy Z Fold 3 is widely receiving the July 2022 Android security patch in the US. The foldable started picking up the new security update in the country a few weeks back. The initial rollout only covered the unlocked units. But in recent days, the carrier-locked variants of the phone are also receiving the latest SMR (Security Maintenance Release) stateside.

This update for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is rolling out with firmware version F926USQU1DVG1 for the carrier-locked units in the US. The OTA (over the air) package is already available on a few networks, including T-Mobile. It should soon reach other networks too.

The official changelog for this update only mentions stability improvements along with this month’s vulnerability fixes. So don’t be hopeful of any notable user-facing changes here. With Samsung readying One UI 4.1.1 for its next-gen foldables, the company would be reserving all new features for the new iteration of its custom software. One UI 4.1.1 should also trickle down to older foldable models in the future, including the Galaxy Z Fold 3.

While there aren’t any new features to look forward to in the latest update, it patches plenty of security issues. Samsung earlier this month confirmed that the July SMR contains fixes for more than 60 vulnerabilities. These include 20-odd Android OS vulnerabilities patched by Google. Three of them were critical issues.

Additionally, 41 other issues were specific to Samsung’s devices. They didn’t affect Android devices from other brands. Among them were issues compromising the security of Galaxy smartphones and tablets. Some of them allowed attackers to bypass the Knox security platform with a factory reset of the device. The Korean firm also patched issues with Contact, Messages, App Lock, and other services.

Carrier-locked units of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 get the July update

Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Fold 3 last August, alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 3. The company is now readying to introduce their respective successors soon — the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 will break cover on August 10. Meanwhile, if you are using the 2021 Fold model in the US, the July SMR is headed your way and should reach your phone anytime now if it hasn’t already. Watch out for a notification in the coming days.

You can also manually check for updates from the Settings app on your phone. Simply scroll down to the Software update menu and tap on Download and install. If you don’t see any pending OTA updates, check again a few days later.
