Samsung has started updating the Galaxy Z Fold 3 with the July 2022 Android security patch in the US. The update for the bigger foldable comes shortly after the clamshell model, the Galaxy Z Flip 3, picked it. Neither device has received the new security update anywhere else.

As of this writing, the July SMR (Security Maintenance Release) for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is rolling out to unlocked units in the US (model number SM-F926U1). The new firmware version for the phone is F926U1UES1DVEG. The OTA (over the air) rollout is available on most carrier networks, including T-Mobile, AT&T, Bluegrass Cellular, C-Spire, and others, with more joining soon.

This update should reach the carrier-locked units (SM-F926U) of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 within a few days. The same goes for the Galaxy Z Flip 3 as well. A global rollout should also be just around the corner.

Like the Galaxy Z Flip 3, this month’s update for the Z Fold 4 also doesn’t bring any user-facing changes. It’s all about security fixes, which are plenty in numbers, though. Samsung Thursday revealed that the July SMR fixes over 60 vulnerabilities, including three critical Android OS issues and 41 other flaws that only affect its Galaxy smartphones and tablets.

Some of these vulnerabilities compromised Samsung’s Knox security platform, allowing attackers to bypass device security. Vulnerabilities affecting AppLock, Finder, TelephonyUI, Messages, Wearable Manager, and others have also been fixed.

As always, these fixes will roll out to all eligible Samsung devices over the next few weeks. The OTA update will be released in batches and may take up to a few days to show up on all units of a model. If you’re using the Galaxy Z Fold 3 or Galaxy Z Flip 3 in the US and haven’t yet received the July SMR, you should soon. You can check for it by navigating to Settings > Software update and tapping on Download and install. You should also receive a notification when the update becomes available to you.

July update has rolled out to several other Galaxy devices

In addition to the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3, Samsung has also released the July update to Galaxy S22, Galaxy S21, Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy S20 FE, Galaxy A53, Galaxy A32, Galaxy F62, and the Galaxy A23. But only the Galaxy Note 20 series has received it in the US so far. Other eligible models should also join the party soon. We will let you know when the rollouts begin.
