The Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 were the first two Samsung phones to get the May 2022 Android security patch in the US. The rollout began very early in May. But all this while, it was limited to the unlocked variants of the phone. Today, the carrier-locked counterparts of the foldable duo are getting the new security update as well.
The May security update is now rolling out to the carrier-locked variants of both Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 in the US. As of this writing, the OTA (over the air) package is available on T-Mobile, Comcast, and Xfinity Mobile networks. The rollout should shoon expand to other carrier networks as well. Wtahc out for an update with firmware version F926USQS1CVD2 for the former and F711USQS2CVD2 for the latter.
As confirmed by Samsung earlier this month, the May SMR (Security Maintenance Release) contains fixes for over 50 vulnerabilities. The majority of those fixes are from Google, who has patched more than 30 Android OS vulnerabilities this month. Aditionally, the Korean firm patched 18 SVEs (Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures) as well. These are security flaws specific to its Android powered Galaxy smartphones and tablets.
May security update widely available to Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 in the US
Samsung began rolling out all of the May security update to its devices in the last week of April. The Galaxy S22 series picked up the new SMR first. Since then, dozens of other Galaxy smartphones and tablets have joined the party. At the same time, the company has also expanded the availability of the new security update for eligible devices in more markets globally. The carrier-locked Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 in the US are among the latest beneficiaries.
If you’re using either of Samsung’s latest foldables in the US and haven’t received the May SMR yet, the wait shouldn’t be much longer now. Watch out for a notification in the coming days. Once you receive the notification, tap on it and follow the on-screen instructions to install the new OTA package.
Even if you don’t receive any notification, you can manually check for updates from the Settings app on your phone. Simply scroll down and go to the Software update menu and tap on Download and install. If there’s an OTA update available, you will be prompted to download it. If there’s no update shown, check again a few days later.
