Samsung has released the May 2022 Android security patch to the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 3 in the US. The 2021 foldables have yet to receive the new security update anywhere else. We expect the devices to get this update in other markets in the coming days. This month’s security patch will also roll out to more Galaxy devices over the next few weeks.

The May SMR (Security Maintenance Release) for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is rolling out to unlocked units on all US wireless networks. The updated firmware versions for the two foldables are F926U1UES1CVD4 and F711U1TBS2CVD4 respectively. It shouldn’t be long before the carrier-locked variants also get in the act.

As of this writing, neither Google nor Samsung has published the content of the May security patch. But we can expect to see fixes for dozens of Android OS vulnerabilities. The Korean brand will include several SVE (Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures) patches as well. We will let you know when we have the detailed patch. The foldable duo likely aren’t getting any notable new feature here. It hasn’t been long since they received the One UI 4.1 update with a host of new features and improvements.

May security update reaches Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3

As expected, Samsung was the first manufacturer to release the May security update to its devices. The Korean behemoth began the rollout early last week, with the Galaxy S22 series picking it up first. The Galaxy Tab S8 series, which launched alongside the Galaxy S22 earlier this year, joined the party soon. The May SMR also recently rolled out to the Galaxy S21 series. Today, it has reached the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 as well. While the rollout for the first three devices began in international markets, that for the foldable duo has begun in the US.

If you’re rocking either of Samsung’s newest foldable offerings currently, you can expect to receive this update anytime now if you haven’t already. As far as installing the new software package is concerned, you probably know the drill. The update will roll out over the air (OTA), with your device notifying you once it becomes available. You can also navigate to SettingsSoftware update and tap on Download and install to manually check for updates. If it doesn’t show any pending update, check again a few days later.
