User:Justman10000 hello, Your enthusiasm is welcome : ) Yet the request you made won't be sucessful due at least to the following :
  • Translatewiki is a rather focused scope, low maintenance project.
  • Translatewiki has an existing team visible on Project:About, who satisfies current technical needs
  • Translatewiki therefore doesn't need spontaneous new software admins
  • You have not defined your skillsets
  • There is no defined purpose / bug(s) / feature(s) on which you want to work
  • There is no minimal community support for that work
  • 2~3,000 edits on a wiki is still low to request software administrator right.

If you talk about MediaWiki –the PHP software server side– to « keep the software up », you need at least proven experience on back end dev, versioning (github/gerrit/gitlab), PHP, databases and JS. Then there is the trust threshold which likely none on us volunteers satisfy.
If you meant the wiki pages, we then generally talk about a « Wiki instance », not a « Mediawiki instance ». The threshold is lower there, still need more that what most of us have.

I would like to translate giant projects (like MediaWiki)! However, since this contains literally thousands or even tens of thousands of source texts, and I only want to revise individual translations, it takes too long for the respective source texts to be filtered by the search (only 100 source texts are searched at a time). I have translated all of MediaWiki and its extensions almost 100% into my language. Even though I have the administrator permissions, I have never needed them to do that. Change language name for Eastern Pwo (kjp)

I request that the language name ဖၠုံလိက် be changed to ဖၠုံဘာႋသာ့ဆ်ုခၠါင်, read more about Eastern Pwo language name meaning below.

  1. ဖၠုံ = Karen
  2. ဖၠုံလိက် = Karen text
  3. လိက် = Text
  4. ဘာႋသာ့ = Language
  5. ဆ်ုခၠါင် = speaking or speak, like (ဖၠုံဆ်ုခၠါင်=Speak Karen or Karen speaking)
  6. ဖၠုံဘာႋသာ့ဆ်ုခၠါင် = Eastern Pwo language or Karen language)

I have different proposals for the name of this language:
  1. Requested by the original translator User:Rul1902 on the page Thread:Support/Add_language_to_translate, confirmed there by another used, and set as the current name: ဖၠုံလိက်
  2. Requested by you: ဖၠုံဘာႋသာ့ဆ်ုခၠါင်
  3. Gboard app: အရှေ့ဖလို
  4. Ethnologue: ဖၠုံ, ဖၠုံယှိုဝ်
I really don't know what to choose.
The only options that have external references are Gboard and Ethnologue, although it's a problem that they are different from each other. The other two options don't have any clear references.

Okay, I will explain the easiest way for you to understand, Please note that ဖၠုံလိက် is not a language name, it is just an alphabet name, ဖၠုံလိက် is somewhat similar to (လိက်မန်/Mon text) in Mon language. my translation above about ဖၠုံလိက် is 100% correct, and အရှေ့ဖလို is not a text written in the Eastern Pwo language, it is a Burmese language, if you need your reference on ဖၠုံလိက်, please see this Facebook page link Shwe Pwo Karen, thanks. (ပိုး Pwo and စကော S'gaw) is the name other ethnic groups call them, but there is no official usage in their language. regarding this case, it can be understood by studying the meaning of the vocabulary (စှီၤ၊ ဖျိၩ့၊ ဖၠုံ), The term vocabulary (စှီၤ၊ ဖျိၩ့၊ ဖၠုံ) is pronounced differently but means the same. Check out the translation below:
  1. S'gaw Karen language = စှီၤ (Human, humanity), ကညီ (Karen), ကျိာ် (language), ကညီကျိာ် (Karen language)
  2. Western Pwo language = ဖျိၩ့ (Karen), ၡိ (language), ဖျိၩ့ၡိ (Karen language)

Requesting Waali language with language code=wlx to be added to Wikimedia

It would be an honor for Waali language with the language code=wlx to be added to the Wikimedia space. The Waali language holds immense significance for the community. It is the most spoken language within the Wa municipality, the regional capital and its surrounding towns and villages, and serves as a cornerstone of it’s cultural heritage. However, it faces a concerning reality – the spoken use of Waali is declining at an alarming rate.

This decline poses a serious threat to the future of the language. If left unchecked, the Waali language may face extinction, taking with it a valuable piece of natives’ cultural identity.

Message localization problem: MediaWiki:Discussiontools-pageframe-latestcomment/kaa

Dear All
Thank you for your continuous support.
I faced a problem with the translation of part of this message (MediaWiki:Discussiontools-pageframe-latestcomment/kaa) into Karakalpak (kaa) language. The message is already translated into Karakalpak itself (including $3, $2), but the part $1(*) is still not in Karakalpak (it's still in Cyrillic Kazakh (kk-cyrl), as it's the basic language for Karakalpak, please visit this page for evidence). I tried to find everywhere, I translated in kaa whatever I found about #time #ago, but I couldn't success in changing $1 into kaa during last 6-8 months. Maybe I couldn't find the correct original message for $1. Please support to find the original link for the $1 message so that I could translate it into kaa. Can somebody help with this issue or is it better to create a bug report on Phabricator directly?

I ran a codesearch for that message name to see where it's used and it's in includes/CommentFormatter.php, which gives some idea as to what the parameters are and where they're coming from. It appears that DiscussionTools is using MediaWiki's core "human-friendly" timestamp formatting functions, so the messages you're probably looking for are MediaWiki:Ago/kaa and friends, e.g. MediaWiki:Seconds/kaa, MediaWiki:Minutes/kaa, MediaWiki:Hours/kaa, MediaWiki:Days/kaa, MediaWiki:Weeks/kaa, MediaWiki:Months/kaa, MediaWiki:Years/kaa.
Granted, of those only the seconds and minutes ones are untranslated and currently appear in Cyrillic, the rest you've already translated. As for why the months translation isn't live yet, I'm guessing that since you translated it rather recently (28th June), it hasn't yet been either exported back to the MediaWiki core repository (unlikely, I think exports for MediaWiki and MW-related things happen daily nowadays?) or not deployed onto Wikimedia Foundation wikis (this is the more likely option; I don't know how WMF deployments exactly work, so someone else can probably better answer your obvious follow-up question of "well, when is it going to be deployed, then?"). Thank you @Jack Phoenix for spending time and checking it. Your comments are partially correct, but messages MediaWiki:Years/kaa and MediaWiki:Week/kaa were translated by me last year. That's why I started to think, that there must be another messages about date and time, which I couldn't find. Fortunately Phabricator developers helped me to understand the issue fully: these time values are taken from external library - CLDR. Now I'm working with translations into kaa on CLDR. This was also reported on Phabricator as phab:T368729, where I looked at it more closely and determined the content comes from CLDR instead of any of those sources. New translations are deployed to most Wikipedias on Thursday, and it appears there will be a deployment tomorrow despite it being the fourth of July. The statistics say there are 2980 message left to translate for MediaWiki in Dutch, yet the translation interface claims there is nothing to translate. This has been going on for a few days now. What gives? McDutchie (discussion) 22:27, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed it on June 28, too.
It happens consistently with languages with high rate of translation, like he, tr, de, nl.
Curiously, it doesn't happen with fr, even though its rate of translation is higher than that of de and nl.
It doesn't seem to happen with languages with lower rate of translation, like nzi, za, ka.
For now, I don't have deeper analysis, just these observations.

It was a regression from refactoring. FuzzyBot adding incorrect translations

I'm reviewing translations and saw that FuzzyBot has been adding English translations as if they were in Swedish (sv). Se this edit for instance: Special:Diff/12493062. The edit summary reads "Importing a new version from external source". Which external source? Does the bot collect translations somewhere where they haven't translated the units properly? It’s an initial import from https://github.com/OpenHistoricalMap/overpass-turbo/blob/main/locales/sv.json. Unfortunately, that file mixes English and Swedish strings without differentiating between them (it looks like the maintainers just added new strings with English “translations” to all translation files). I hope they’ll stop with this practice now that they have a professional translation service called translatewiki.net, but the existing wrong translations are still there. Of course, if you translate them for real here, your translation will be synchronized back and it won’t be overwritten with English in the future. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 17:58, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Of course, I'm going through the translations in Swedish, but I saw that the bot did the same for at least Norwegian and Danish. I don't feel comfortable in traslating those. I’m not sure if the bot is able to remove translations, but if it is, it can do so only by following up on updates to the GitHub repository, and as far as I’m aware, editing translations directly on GitHub (after the initial import to Translatewiki) is discouraged because it can lead to conflicts (e.g. if the Swedish translation is pruned together with the Norwegian and Danish ones), and resolving those is a manual and thus error-prone task. Someone from the admins going through the translations (or running a bot other than FuzzyBot through them) should probably work. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 17:58, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Is it actually used anywhere?
According to the English Wikipedia, it was "designed" and "used in one or two books", but was it used elsewhere?
Does anyone need it as a user interface language?
translatewiki.net is a place for translating user interface for software that people will actually use. Adding languages to our configuration requires work, and it should only be done for languages that are actually necessary. The translatewiki.net languages policy says that it has to be "a living language and a general purpose language". It looks like at this point, the Latin alphabet is actually used for this language, whereas the Cyrillic variant is not something that a lot of people need and use, but only an experiment, although you can try to convince us otherwise. If we consider that there are few books in the Dobruja Tatar language, it is not a surprising number. Also, I think this alphabet should be ignored. And probably Taner Murat wrote this alphabet thinking about the Tatars in Moldova and Ukraine, otherwise who knows Cyrillic in Romania? Support for translating Torwali (trw) language.

I need support for translating my mother language Torwali spoken in the Swat valley of Pakistan. Its code is "trw" and it is one of the endangered languages of Northern Pakistan. It is spoken by about 150,000 people, among them 90,000 are in the heartland in upper reaches of Swat while about 60,000 people have migrated to major cities of Pakistan in search of livelihood. Adding Assyrian Neo-Aramaic (aii) to translatewiki.net

Hi! Thanks for the request!
I'll be happy to do the configuration for this, but I have a few questions:
  • This is for the current spoken and written language, right? We already have the messily defined "arc" and "syc" codes in our configuration, but if I understand correctly, these are for the ancient language. (For what it's worth, perhaps you'll find some value in the current translations into "arc". The translations may be correct, but the language may be ancient, and "syc" may be a more appropriate code for it.)
  • Follow-up to the previous question: is this different from the language in the site that is currently called "Aramaic Wikipedia"? (I know that there are several languages written in this alphabet and called "Aramaic" or "Syriac". I learned Biblical Aramaic in university, but I never learned the varieties written in the Aramaic alphabet, so unfortunately I can't tell them apart.)
  • How is this different from the codes "cld" (Chaldean) and "syr" (which includes both "aii" and "cld")? According to the English Wikipedia article, they are all the same thing, but perhaps this is wrong.
  • Which native label would be the best to use? I can find:
    • ܣܘܪܝܬ: English Wikipedia (with no external reference), Gboard app, and assyrianlanguages.org dictionary (although it somewhat confusingly says "more often ܠܸܫܵܢܵܐ ܕܣܘܼܪܹܝܬ݂ is used")
    • ܐܬܘܪܝܐ: Ethnologue and Russian-Assyrian Dictionary (1993, Shumanov)
    • ܣܘܪܬ: Ethnologue
  • Are there any other websites in this language? Or in this language and in one or more others?
I want to be sure that we get it right as early as possible, because otherwise it will be hard to fix later ;)

yeah there are some websites, i think https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Category:Assyrian_Neo-Aramaic_language and https://www.bible.com/bible/1080/MAT.1.AII are the two most accurate for vocalized spelling, let me know if you need more ColumbaBush (talk) 14:43, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! This is mostly done now. You can start translating.
Right now, you may experience some issues related to right-to-left (RTL) writing and selecting the language using the "Translate to" button. They are already fixed in the code, but it will take a few days to deploy them. By the end of next week, they should all be fixed. However, I wanted to let you start doing things as quickly as possible :)
I've added a list of projects that should be translated if you want to develop a Wikipedia in this language to your user page under the title "Links for Assyrian Neo-Aramaic". You can get to your user page by clicking your username at the top of the page. The first item, "Most important / Most used" is a requirement for "graduating" out of the Incubator, so I recommend starting from it. The rest of the list is not a requirement according to the current rules, but it is nevertheless recommended to translate them some day.
The bottom of the list has Guides that I recommend reading, about terminology, translating practices, etc.

MediaWiki:Title-invalid-empty should be reworded

The message currently reads, "The requested page title is empty or contains only the name of a namespace." To me, it needs a correction as "name of a namespace" is not specific (the page titles "MediaWiki" and "Help" are valid despite being names of a namespace).

I suggest rewording the message to "The requested page title is empty or contains only a namespace prefix." as a namespace prefix contains a colon after the name of a namespace. Qwrop (talk) 13:22, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The suggestions are duplicated when they come from different sources; if they come from other messages here in Translatewiki, they are consolidated (i.e. "utilisé 3 fois"), but if they come from other sources like Google Translate or MinT, they are shown with duplication. Personally, I find this distinction useful, because it shows that multiple sources agree (or disagree) on what is probably a correct translation. It is not allowed to have a closing tag opening the tag pair. At best use a single self closing tag <br /> or nothing at all. "카테고리들" invades!

Your system changed {{PAGE:분류|분류}} to {{PAGE:분류|카테고리들}} in ko.wikipedia over and over again. Our administrators roll back it evrytime, but the recover has delay for systemic process, and meanwhile, users feel embarrassment.

It is happened that someone translates "Categories" to "카테고리들" for Korean language in this site. However, ko.wikipedia already has "분류" to use for that. I cannot understand why your site changes the established word without any confirm or recognition in the community. If there are no different meaning on the both translated words, and of course not, it is still very important matter that who chooses the usage of words in their communities.

So, I can say this is invation! And I feel some kind of distinction on this case. If I change {{PAGE:Category|Categories}} to {{PAGE:Category|grouping}} in en.wikipedia, what's going on its community? Your site sets itself to translate from English to other laguages, not reverse. So, I'm writting this complaint in English for your understanding. By the way, can you show your respect for non-english languages?

Please, stop change the massages, words, variables and others in Korean Wikipedia without our communty's confirm.

You are probably referring to the page MediaWiki:Pagecategories/ko. It was changed recently from "분류" to "카테고리|카테고리들" by @Suleiman the Magnificent Television, and it was already fixed by users @Ykhwong and @이강철.
This site is giving a platform for localization to volunteer translators from all languages in the wiki spirit of "anyone can edit". This means that translation can be done efficiently, but mistakes occasionally happen.
I recommend that somebody regularly checks new translations into Korean using the Proofread (교정됨) button in the sidebar. It should be done by one or more people who know Korean well and who are experienced with wiki editing.
Specifically about this case, can anyone please check the other edits of @Suleiman the Magnificent Television? If that user's translations are generally good, but they made one mistake, someone should explain them how to do it correctly (in fact, @Ykhwong already did it). The translations won't appear on your wiki immediately. They are deployed to live wikis once a week. If all goes well, you will see them on your wiki on Friday morning next week (August 2).

It needs to be added to mediawiki section in repoconfig.yaml file in order to enable exports. You can search for mediawiki-installer as an example
