Thermal Interface Plate

Description
Adds the Thermal Interface Plate, a Drywall replacement that transfers heat between buildings in a tile even in a complete Vacuum. Intended for replacing liquid drop cooling both in space and underground in situations such as volcano management.

The Thermal Interface Plate has a 1x1 area of effect, unlike the Tempshift Plate, but it can transfer heat from other buildings that share its tile to a neighboring Tempshift Plate even in Vacuum.

Transfers heat between
  • Foreground buildings (including but not limited to Auto-Sweeper, Robo-Miner, Conveyor Loader, Small Transformer, Telescope, and so forth)
  • Liquid Pipes
  • Gas Pipes
  • Power Wires
  • Tempshift Plates
  • Transit Tubes
  • Automation components and wires

Does not transfer heat between
  • Duplicants
  • Critters
  • Debris
  • Plants
  • Items on Conveyor Rails
  • Items inside Storage Bins or Liquid Reservoirs, even if the storage container itself can transfer heat with the Thermal Interface Plate

Compatibility

If Drywall Hides Pipes is installed, Thermal Interface Plate will also hide pipes in its tile.

If Faster Drywall&Plate Construction is installed, Thermal Interface Plate build time will be reduced to 6 in-game seconds.

Game Update 535720 - Hot Shots
"We added a Conduction Panel that exchanges heat with buildings that it overlaps with, offering a new way to cool down space industry buildings—or whatever else you’ve decided to build in the glorious vacuum of your asteroid’s surface."

This mod is actually more versatile in a single tile than many would think.
Currently on the 'Hot shots' update as of writing this. I'll be keeping this one for as long as possible. "Works as intended" is a small part of why.

It's always been a must-have and you made it to the basegame, congrats:steamthumbsup:

Thank you for making it for the time we did not have an Basegame Interface Plate. Nice that it made it into the Basegame!

so cool, this a magic.

I love this mod! (Why isn't it part of the base game?)

I've been noticing an unexpected behaviour with this mod: When using aluminium (radiant pipe and TIP) and a Steam Generator, everything is fine and the transfer keeps up. However when I use gold, it doesn't. While this is surprising, gold is not as good as Aluminium as a conductor, so okay, maybe that makes sense.

The unexpected thing is that I can back the steam generator with multiple gold TIP and gold pipes there doesn't seem to be any appreciable change from when using a single one. The liquid (water /salt water/brine) is at a reasonable temperature (1-50c) and the exact temp doesn't seem to make any difference to the amount of heat being moved.

I also had a radbolt generator melt (taking the pipe and TIP with it) and I suspect this is also the reason.

Am I confused as to how this should work?

Cool, thanks!

@nothingtosay The mod allows you to put a transfer medium in vacuum (e.g. space biome). Without it, there wouldn't be heat transfer so any item that builds up heat e.g. rad bolt generator, will eventually melt away unless you find a way to transfer away the heat. Old school way to do so was to drop some liquid on a solid tile that would stand below the heating item, and some plumbing with coolant. With this mod you just strap the plate behind the heating item with the plumbing passing through and you're done.
It's a very useful QoL mod :)

I don't understand the mod. But if i am getting the gist of it: it transfers heat on the single tile it exists. anything on it transfers heat to anything else on it?
