This is unfortunately not a great survivor-like, and if I had paid for it I would have refunded after one round and not attempted much, but since I did here's a detailed review. I don't usually leave negative reviews on free games, but since this one plans to have a price tag later I wanted to leave one.

There are very few settings with a lot missing:
-No way to change controls
-There's no manual aim
-No volume control for SFX
-Very few screen control options
But they promote their insta and tiktok because that's more important than unnecessary settings like volume controls.

I am a huge fan of pixel art, but the art style is irregular across maps and your pizza always looks remarkably out of place. It's cool that it changes when you add toppings, but it doesn't match the rest of the game.

Hitboxes are awkward. I'd find myself getting bumped for no reason or watch one of my attacks go through an enemy. Hitboxes are the worst on obstacles since you'll get stopped by an obstacle before even hitting it, and it's particularly frustrating with the objects that mysteriously damage you, like the furnace before it's even turned on. The obstacles only sometimes go transparent when you're behind them, and enemies often get stuck behind them, so you'll get stuck on an object with an enemy also stuck against it who you might not see. I would also walk over rewards and not receive them which was confusing.

The same tutorial pop-ups happen that give basically no information, and a lot of information, like what your attacks do, is hidden for ???? reasons. Like I didn't realize the potato chip upgrade turned enemies into pigs which would then charge into me and damage me, so I was confused as to why I randomly had pig enemies. It's difficult to see what attacks are actually doing damage in your build.

Time treasured chests exist. I'm sure it'll be divisive, but there are times where more than one will drop and they'll be too far apart to get them all. I think that's a feature rather than a bug. I will not play this game long enough to form an opinion on it.

Pets exist. The dog would randomly bring me stuff, but not enough to change gameplay. I guess because people might care about animal memes. I never actually stumbled onto any animal cages to unlock other pets and I'm not sure how I missed them.

Dailies exist. I assume to try to fomo you into playing more than once.

There are a lot of abilities and they tend to dilute the pool. This happens a lot in these games so I wouldn't necessarily consider it a flaw, but I played one game where I started with three level ups in a row with only passives and no new weapons. I'm sure there's some balancing that can be done.

I don't blame anyone for complaining this is too difficult for them since RNG seems to spam less useful abilities, and with hitboxes as bad as they are, it's easy to get cornered in a wave and take a lot of damage without knowing where it's coming from. There does seem to be a bug where you can get damaged while waiting for the level up screen to pop, so if you're levelling up more than once, you can get stuck against an enemy and keep taking damage between screen pop-ups since you can't really move out of the way.

I still found it really easy. You start with revives which is great for when you're still learning. It could be a decent introduction to the genre, but generally the price tags of the genre are so low that I would recommend a lot of other games to start before this one. I'm not a huge fan of survivor-likes that get easier as you spend coins which I know many consider a staple (I prefer unlocking harder difficulties/more characters), but I've barely unlocked anything and can breeze through it. The rates at which things increase in the coin shop are very high and I'm not really sure why. It feels needlessly punishing for people who are struggling and just kind of a time waster for those of us who aren't. Endless mode doesn't add any new challenges because the waves barely get harder, and the longer you play it the more you just see the many gameplay flaws. Once you max out your abilities, it gives you the option to restore your health when you level up since the health drops get fewer.

Maybe with a lot of polish this could be a better game. In its current state it feels very early access. Adding pizza toppings is definitely an interesting concept, but adding dynamics where certain topping combinations are stronger is kinda boring, especially when I'm like "oh that looks gross tbh." I'm also not expecting these things to have a strong plot, but idk I'm struggling with "animal who would normally try to steal my pizza is somehow helping it while also not being attacked by mysterious enemies." Maybe I just don't have enough whimsy in me.

TL;DR: It's a mozzarella cheese pizza, but no toppings.

I have a soft spot for silly little games that take a genre and play around with it. As such, I think Pizza Hero is cute: You're a pizza with a dog companion and you have to defend yourself against the aliens/monsters/whatever that are attacking you for a certain amount of time before moving to a portal and finishing the level.

The extent that this game plays with the concept of a Survivor-like is that you have a dash, and you auto-aim every weapon. These are the extent of new things that Pizza Hero adds to the pizza. Otherwise, it is the exact same Survivor-like you could find just about anywhere.

The toppings are also pretty lackluster. You have a vanilla shot, you have a lobbed explosive, and you have an orbital, to start with. Then you can get things like a machine-gun like shot, a spread shot, a triple shot, a homing shot, and a whole bunch of other things that are all very... normal.

For a "unique shoot 'em up roguelike", it really doesn't bring anything particularly unique to the table.
