Cost-effective pricing

Pay as you go and simplify your fulfilment costs. With FBA, you’re charged for storage space and each order we fulfil. Fees for Selling on Amazon and optional services may apply.

FBA Storage and Fulfilment Fees

As a switched-on seller, you’ll naturally want to see whether FBA pricing is right for your products and business. FBA fees are designed to be cost-effective for diverse product types. All shipping costs are included.

Inventory storage fees

These are charged for all items stored in an Amazon fulfilment centre, based on your daily average volume of inventory measured in cubic metres. Inventory storage rates vary depending on time of year.

Referral fees

All sellers (regardless of plan type) pay a referral fee on each item sold.

Fulfilment fees

These fees cover picking and packing, shipping and handling, customer service and product returns for your FBA products. They’re charged per unit according to the unit’s dimensions and weight, within product size tiers.

Long-term storage fees

These fees apply to items stored in a fulfilment centre for more than 365 days and are assessed on a monthly basis. Effective inventory management can help you avoid long-term storage fees.

Removal order fees

You can choose to have Amazon return or dispose of your inventory in a fulfilment centre for a per-item fee.

Unplanned services fees

Unplanned services fees are charged when inventory arrives at a fulfilment centre without proper preparation or labelling, requiring additional services. These can be avoided with the right packing and shipping.

Amazon Partnered Carrier Program (domestic) fees

Use an Amazon Partnered Carrier to pick up your shipment from an eligible location in Australia and drop it off to an Amazon fulfilment centre for a per-box fee.

FBA Inventory Management

List products, create shipping plans, send in shipments, track and monitor your shipments, and remove inventory from Amazon fulfilment centres. It’s all simple with the tools in your Seller Central dashboard.

Track inventory age

Use Inventory Age tools to understand how much inventory you’re holding and how long it’s been in the fulfilment centre. Assessing these factors regularly can help you improve sell-through rates and avoid long-term storage fees.

Fix stranded inventory

Stranded inventory is inventory that is sitting in a fulfilment centre without an active offer on Amazon. Keep your listings active by addressing any issues and ensuring key pricing and condition information is included.

Replenish inventory

Maintaining healthy inventory levels will help you bring in revenue and provide reliable product availability for customers. Set up replenishment alerts to suit your business, so you can prepare and send FBA inventory to Amazon as stock gets low

Consider inventory storage limits

So we can pick, pack and ship all products quickly and reliably, Amazon may apply an inventory storage limit for your seller account. These limits can depend on factors such as your selling plan and your Inventory Performance Index.

Your Inventory Performance Index gauges your inventory performance over time. Be sure to fix stranded inventory and maintain a healthy inventory balance with products that have a high sell-through rate.

Revisit your shipment plan

Deliver your inventory to our fulfilment centre, and we’ll get your eligible orders where they need to go.
Learn more about the FBA shipping process and how to prepare your inventory.

The Amazon FBA shipping process

When you send inventory to Amazon, you begin by creating a shipping plan. This plan clarifies the products you intend to send, the quantity of each product, delivery details and whether your products will be prepared and labelled by yourself or Amazon.

Once you’ve prepared your shipment you have the option of using an Amazon Partnered Carrier to pick up your small parcel delivery from an eligible Australian location and send it to an Amazon fulfilment centre.

It’s important to prepare, label and ship your FBA inventory according to your shipping plan and our packaging and prep requirements, so we can have your inventory made available for sale as soon as possible.

FBA prep services

FBA offers a range of optional prep services to get your products ready for fulfilment, which can include bagging, taping, bubble wrapping or labelling products. These services are available for a per unit fee. You can also choose to prepare and label products yourself as you create your shipment plan.

How do Amazon fulfilment centres work?

After you create a shipping plan and send your inventory to an Amazon fulfilment centre, our team scans your inventory and stores it until it’s ready to be sent. When an eligible order comes in, we pick, pack and ship the order to your customer and provide 24/7 customer service on any post-sale enquiries.

Fulfilment by Amazon can be a great option if you’re looking to:
  • Minimise in-house warehousing and storage costs
  • Scale your business without large internal outlays
  • Reduce time spent sending out individual orders
  • Add to the appeal of your products on Amazon

Where are my nearest Amazon fulfilment centres in Australia?

While the fulfilment centre you send to will depend on your specific shipping plan, we have fulfilment centres located in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Brisbane.

How quickly will my products be available for sale?

Inventory that is sent to a fulfilment centre is typically scanned and made available for sale within three working days of delivery. It’s important that your shipments to an Amazon fulfilment centre are accurately prepped and labelled so this process isn’t delayed.

Tracking shipments

Your Shipping Queue within Seller Central makes it easy to view the progress of all shipments you’re working on, as well as shipments you have already sent to Amazon. View the Shipment Summary page to track each specific shipment from creation to closure.

Fulfilment by Amazon or Fulfilment by Seller:
Which to Choose?

This is a common question for sellers who are just starting out. In fact, many sellers use a mix of both fulfilment methods
to send their orders. Learn about the key differences and what to consider when deciding what’s right for you.
Icon: A product label with a star

What is the Fulfilment by Seller option?

If you prefer to handle fulfilment yourself, you can select Fulfilment by Seller (FBS) for product listings in your Amazon seller account. This means that as the seller you’ll be responsible for storing, picking, packing and shipping orders as your customers buy these products on Amazon.com.au. You can also choose to use a third party logistics service provider with this option. Alternatively, you can use Amazon Easy Ship, where orders are picked up from your location and delivered to your customer’s doorstep
Icon: a target with a product label

What’s the difference between FBA and FBS?

The key difference is that with FBA, Amazon handles the entire fulfilment process after the sale is made. With FBS, you as the seller will handle everything before and after the sale.
Whether you choose FBA or FBS for your products, following best practices can help you to sell and grow as a seller on Amazon.com.au. What’s universal is providing plenty of useful information and a great customer experience!
Icon: a desktop computer with an Amazon smile logo

How to decide between FBA and FBS

While the right decision can depend on your products and growth strategy, there are a few factors to consider when choosing between the two fulfilment methods for a product you’re planning to sell.
Costs vs Fees:

What will the total costs be of storing, picking, packing and shipping the product orders yourself? How will this compare to FBA fees as you assess profitability for that particular product?
Time and resources:

Will you have time to send out each individual order as you make sales? Are you able to dedicate resources to providing customer service, and managing any refunds or returns?
Customer experience:

FBA enables Amazon Prime customers to take advantage of free expedited shipping on eligible orders and all Amazon.com.au customers to enjoy free shipping on eligible orders over $59.
Reliability:

If your business is smaller, agile or just starting out, FBA can be a great way to provide high quality customer service for your customers with phone and email responses around the clock.
Product mix:

Profit margins can vary for different products depending on their size, weight and category. As such, FBA, FBS or even a mix between the two could be the right choice for your Amazon orders.
