1. French fries. Primarily heard in the UK. Primarily heard in UK. I'm going to get some fish and chips—would you like anything? You don't eat your chips with mayo? Why, it's very common here. Wanna stop for some chips? I just feel like a salty snack.
2. slang Money. I don't make enough chips for a new car right now, so this junker will have to do. A: "Did you see Sally's new convertible?" B: "Yeah, that thing looks like it cost some serious chips." I do some freelance work in the evenings to earn some extra chips on the side.
3. slang A carpenter. In this usage, the term is often capitalized and used as form of address. Do you think can build what's on this diagram, Chips? Hey, Chips, what do you think a home renovation project like this would cost? Chips, you got a hammer I can borrow for a minute?
