1. An exaggerated sense of one's importance or status. Often used with the verbs "get" or "have." Jeff has such a big head now that he's captain and thinks he's in charge of everything. Susan got a big head for a while after her promotion, but she's been more modest recently. Your project got a big hand from the panel of judges, Maria, but I wouldn't get a big head about it—it's still very early in the competition.
2. A conceited person who exaggerates their own importance or skillfulness. Bill is such a big-head and thinks he's smarter than everyone else just because he has his PhD. Self-confidence is essential, sure, but you have to learn not to become a big head when things are going well. You're certainly acting like a big head these days. The rest of us have opinions worth hearing, too, you know!
