(Del lat. alter, el otro entre dos.)1. adj. Se aplica a la persona o cosa distinta de la que se habla no es ése, sino otro reloj el que me gusta; es otro chico.
2. Indica la semejanza entre dos cosas es otro artista como su padre.
3. Indica pasado cercano con nombres que expresan tiempo y precedido de artículo la otra noche nos encontramos en el centro.
4. Indica próximo o siguiente unido a la preposición a más artículo y acompañando a nombres que expresan tiempo nos veremos a la otra semana, no en ésta.
5. Se aplica a cualquier persona distinta de la que habla o piensa creo que se refería a otro, no a mí.
6. Se usa en enumeraciones de cosas o personas cogió una cosa de aquí y otra de allí.

8. pron. Alude a una persona, animal o cosa distinta de la que se habla él no quiere ir, que vaya otro.

10. ¡otra! interj. 1. Voz que se usa para pedir una nueva representación o canción en un espectáculo: el grupo accedió a los gritos de ¡otra! cantando un viejo tema.2. Expresa la impaciencia que provoca el interlocutor: ¡otra!, que no, que no voy .
11. otro que tal u otro que tal baila Indica la semejanza que existe entre personas o cosas, generalmente resaltando aspectos negativos él es muy cotilla, pero su mujer es otra que tal baila.

Denota algunas veces la suma semejanza entre dos personas o cosas distintas: es otro Cid.
