Tashtagol

 

a city under oblast jurisdiction in Kemerovo Oblast, RSFSR. It is situated in the Gornaya Shoriia region on the Kondoma River, a tributary of the Tom’. Tashtagol is the terminus of a railroad line branching off from the Trans-Siberian Rail road at the Iurga station and is 197 km south of Novokuznetsk. Population, 24,000 (1974). Iron ore is mined near the city and sent to metallurgical enterprises at Novokuznetsk. Tashtagol has an evening mining-and-metallurgy technicum.
