Client-specific help

[edit]

The section on identifying on connect is mIRC-specific. Help for other clients would be good here. (I'll try to contribute the Chatzilla equivalent.) SpareSimian (talk) 22:58, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Section about how to get help

[edit]

I think it would be good to have a section about what to expect and how to behave. Perhaps something like <http://workaround.org/getting-help-on-irc>. I far too often see people joining the channel, saying "hello, is anyone here?" and leaving frustrated after 3 minutes... -- Duesentrieb-formerly-Gearloose (?!) 11:49, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Contents is appearing on the right side

[edit]

Does anyone know how to fix this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Canadafreakazoid (talkcontribs) 18:19, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Common Postal cards

[edit]

Is a screenshot from a scanned common postal card (from an other website) ok to use ? I mean the copyright is clearly not the website's or a collector of postal cards that have contributed with the original postal card. And how about screenshots from a game ? I'm very UN-familiar with the copyright issues and have only used my own photograhies in articles. (I have contributed mainly in swedish wika but also in danish and english) Very greatful for any answer Awayanoder (talk) 12:25, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

ChatZilla out of date

[edit]

The ChatZilla instructions are out of date... --- cymru lass (hit me up)(background check) 20:56, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've updated them a bit. Poke me if they're still difficult to understand. Thanks, PeterSymonds (talk) 21:44, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Questions about Mibbit

[edit]

Under "What do I need to connect?" at the very bottom, it mentions the Mibbit chat client. However, this client will not connect to freenode, for which this tutorial was originally designed. Should the mention of Mibbit therefore be removed, or simply a notice informing readers that Mibbit cannot be used to connect to freenode?

revert of edit - please discuss

[edit]

@Natureium: please discuss why you reverted my edit. Thanks. Seahawk01 (talk) 02:14, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit is a violation of WP:POINT and not entirely the truth. Natureium (talk) 02:18, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Natureium thanks for the reply. Let me explain what I want to do here. I want to make it explicit that IRC is operating outside of Wikipedia and is not associated with Wikipedia. Maybe an informal association. Of course, I want to be fair and present the facts. I also want people to be aware that it can be very disruptive to Wikipedia to have people outside of the normal channels of operations make decisions. I can expand on this, if you want. And, I am willing to compromise to present this information so both you and me are happy. Seahawk01 (talk) 02:22, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
People are already trying to explain to you the connection between wikipedia and the wikimedia IRC channels at Wikipedia talk:IRC. Natureium (talk) 02:25, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Natureium OK, good...let's move our discussion there. Seahawk01 (talk) 02:33, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Natureium no one has explained to me anything about how IRC is formally affiliated with Wikipedia on the other topic. So I disagree that you reverted my edit and request that you further justify why you did so. Particularly, I want understand how is IRC associated with Wikipedia other than a few volunteers run some channel at freenode. Thanks Seahawk01 (talk) 03:43, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
All help is given by volunteers. Asking for explanations in multiple places will not get you the kind of explanation you are looking for. Natureium (talk) 15:42, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

ChatZilla defunct on Firefox

[edit]

Is there a modern Browser-attached client for Firefox? Chatzilla has been inactive since Firefox 57 in November 2017. If there's not a new recommendation, then that section should probably be removed. Suriname0 (talk) 16:26, 25 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
