Wikipedia:Requested recordings

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This page is to coordinate efforts to get more free content recordings onto Wikipedia to illustrate music topics, and other areas which would benefit from recordings. This project is mainly to gather forces to record larger works, however if shorter solo clips are needed for a page those requests are welcome as well.

The work recorded must have passed into the Public domain in order to be eligible for recording. The recording must then be released under a Commons compatible license (see Commons:Licensing for more information). Before you request a recording here, please make sure that there is not already a freely licensed recording available, checking Commons, Wikipedia:Sound/list, and other sources first.

Works should be uploaded in the Ogg or MIDI formats, and should be uploaded directly to Commons for use on other Wikimedia projects and add it to Category:Sound. For help with Ogg and MIDI, see Wikipedia:Media help.

Requesters should add {{Audio requested}} to the talk page of the article for which the recording is being requested. Include an optional parameter to specify what category of sounds it falls under, and an optional second parameter to specify what the sound should be of.

Example: {{Audio requested|medical sounds|a heart click}}

Adding this template automatically adds the page to Category:Wikipedia requested audio.

If it's a pronunciation you are looking for, you may consult Commons:Pronunciation files requests at Wikimedia Commons as well.

Volunteers may want to add themselves to Category:Wikipedians who take recording requests.

[edit]
  1. Full name of work: Meet Me in the Land of Grapico by Peter DeRose (1916)
  2. Article that recording would illustrate: Grapico (in process)
  3. Freely licensed score: Meet Me in the Land of Grapico[dead link]
  4. Work forces: Piano and voice with Tin Pan Alley jazz sound. Obtaining an original recording would be just as good. See my efforts in this regard. Piano alone would be fine and could be replaced if a voice and piano recording can be made.

  1. "Underworld theme" from Super Mario Bros.
  2. Can't find a clean 30 second OGG sample
  3. Need the 30 second OGG sample converted from an NSF dump of Super Mario Bros.

  5. Volunteers comment: I think I have one. Let me check and I will convert it.
  1. The recording of the whole sonata to illustrate the article about it would be ideal.
  2. In the public domain, but currently not on the IMSLP - commonly found in music libraries though
  3. Organ
  4. Request submitted by -- Clavecin 21:14, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  5. Volunteers comment:
  1. "Ho un non so che" - aria from Agrippina - HMV 6. Could also be used in La Resurrezione and Il pastor fido, as Handel re-used it a lot.
  2. Can't find a free score.
  3. Required: Soprano, violins, continuo, but could easily be done with just soprano and harpsichord/piano.
  4. Request submitted by -- Moreschi 13:06, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  5. Volunteers comment:
I've found a recording of "Bel piacere" from this opera, which is at least a start. Shoemaker's Holiday talk 19:19, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  1. "Why should men quarrel" for The Indian Queen, Z 630.
  2. can't find a link.
  3. For soprano, recorder/flute, and continuo, here lute is best.
  4. Request submitted by -- Moreschi 13:06, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  5. Volunteers comment:
  1. "I am come to lock all fast" for The Fairy-Queen, Z 629.
  2. No link but I possess a score that is probably out of copyright and I may be able to upload the score for this air.
  3. Required: Soprano, continuo - here lute is good, I think.
  4. Request submitted by -- Moreschi 13:06, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  5. Volunteers comment:
  1. Rinaldo, HWV 7: possibly part or all of the solo writing for the sopranino recorder from the aria "Augelletti".
  2. Can't find a link.
  3. Sopranino recorder
  4. Cheers, Moreschi Deletion! 13:06, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  5. Volunteers comment:
I may have an inroad on this one. It's not the sopranino recorder part, it's more of a complete scene with soprano and chorus. [4] We can't use the pre-restored MP3s, but I'm happy to restore the .wav files. Shoemaker's Holiday (talk) 18:31, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  1. John Brown's Body, a 19th century American folk song
  2. Scores, any of these or any others you find (my understanding is it's a very flexible song LOL)
    1. Digital Public Library: https://dp.la/primary-source-sets/john-brown-s-raid-on-harper-s-ferry/sources/1728
    2. WikiSource: https://en.m.wikisource.org/wiki/The_John_Brown_Song_or_Glory_Hallelujah
    3. free-notes.net: https://www.free-notes.net/cgi-bin/noten_Song.pl?song=John+Brown%27s+Body&profile=null&lang=en&db=Main
  3. Work forces: I am truly among the most musically disabled people on earth so you should not listen to me but it was a marching / camp song so I think brass/wind or string instruments or a chorus of a dozen male voices, but literally anything you can produce would be delightful.
