Now this template has become almost an essay. Shouldn't it be bit more succint? --TadejM my talk 07:55, 13 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not for newly created articles

[edit]

I have come across this template being used on articles just created. Puting notirighty aside, it seems most of the times the articles are created because of the death. I think a comment should be added to the qualified use of this template, Not to be used on newly created articles all newly created articles will/could have rapidly changing information. When removing this template, most of my edit summaries end with "This template is used to alert editors of rapid changing edits, it is not used to advertise or confirm the death itself", I believe the same is true in these instances. - FlightTime (open channel) 14:33, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This seems reasonable and sound. I agree in seeing that sometimes articles are only created because someone has passed. It begs to question - if they were not notable enough to have a WP article when they are alive - are they really/actually notable now that they are dead? In reality the answer is no - but this sort of template tagging and even what I call "category abuse" seems to be often used as the grounds to justify WP:NN. That's backwards in my opinion - and counter to what the project is trying to accomplish. I agree with FlightTime and think there should be stipulations like what he suggested surrounding its use. It makes sense and will hopefully prevent (or at least give criteria to) its abuse or mis-application. --Picard's Facepalm Made It So Engage! 15:55, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
