Id field

[edit]

@Shelbystripes: Should we put the NTSB in the |comment= parameter for {{Include-USGov}}? That would put it in parentheses after the main citation. Alternatively, we could use the |source= parameter and {{cite web}} to generate a standard web citation. What do you think? —hike395 (talk) 01:28, 29 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I forgot about the |comment= parameter, that wouldn't be a bad idea. Shelbystripes (talk) 01:30, 29 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Hike395: This took a little work to get consistent formatting (so it looks the same whether or not |source= is used), but I created a test case viewable at {{NTSB/testcases}}. In the sandbox testcase, the |id= parameter goes into the {{Include-USGov}} |comment= field. The accessdate, if provided, doesn't use the {{Include-USGov}} format, and instead is added separately at the end. That way it always appears at the end of the statement, no matter whether or not an |id= parameter is used. Please let me know what you think! That looks good! I like how the accessdate always comes at the end. I wonder if we should put that into {{Include-USGov}} for other templates, also? —hike395 (talk) 18:41, 30 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
That's a possibility. I'll play around in the {{Include-USGov}} sandbox later, see if I can make that work without breaking anything. Shelbystripes (talk) 05:37, 31 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Aaaaand I committed the proposed sandbox version to {{NTSB}}. Done with this template at least. Shelbystripes (talk) 05:40, 31 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Report number format change Comment

[edit]

I just used this template to cite three accident reports but the ID format at NTSB appears to have changed since the documentation here was written. The accident numbers in question were FTW92FA107, FTW92FA107, and CEN11FA359. I retrieved the URL to use in the citations by right-clicking on "PDF Final" under Report on this page. — Xenophore; talk 20:15, 8 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
