Reads like an essay

[edit]

The article itself is not reading anything; the viewer is. Instead, it should be: "The current version of this article is written like an essay".

It's figure of speach. --MooNFisH 10:30, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Figures of 'speech' should not be regarded as proper English. A non-native speaker of English may not understand the wordage. Using informal writing should not be used to describe an article that is based off of informal writing. --Klaser 21:40, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with MooNFisH that the language is appropriate, but it's not just a figure of speech, it's how the word "read" is defined. This is definition 2 of "read" as an intransitive verb from merriam-webster.com:
"2a : to yield a particular meaning or impression when read
b : to be readable or read in a particular manner or to a particular degree <this book reads smoothly>" Sawdust Restaurant (talk) 06:30, 29 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Icon

[edit]

How come the "i" icon on this template is different than the one on all the other message templates (see Wikipedia:Template messages/Cleanup, Style of Writing section especially)? I didn't change it yet with the assumption that there's a reason, but if there isn't, it should have the same icon as the rest of the templates, I think. –Dvandersluis 19:15, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed rephrase

Right now the wording is confusing, imho. --MooNFisH 10:30, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Good suggestion. — xDanielx T/C 05:28, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion page?

[edit]

Is there any discussion page where people concerned with tagging articles with this template communicate with each other? Michael Hardy (talk) 23:55, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Allow linking to talk page

[edit]

It seems like this template should direct would-be editors to look at the talk page of the article in question, at least optionally. SamB (talk) 22:05, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Needs an inline version

[edit]

We should have an inline version of this, to mark specific paras/sentences. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 17:34, 14 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think you might be able to use the inline tag {{Opinion}} for some of that. WhatamIdoing (talk) 02:17, 11 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Minor Proposal

[edit]

Could the text for this template be changed to "This article or section is written like a personal reflection or essay" or could a similar template for a Essay-like section be made please? - Stillwaterising (talk) 16:23, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

New name?

[edit]

I think that the page title confuses people who are accustomed to calling research theses "essays" at school. Could we come up with a less ambiguous name? I'm thinking about something like {{Personal opinion essay}} would work. I'm sure someone will have a better idea, though. WhatamIdoing (talk) 01:06, 18 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Drmies, I'm not sure about that. Are you trying to make this tag cover both the first and third items in Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not#Wikipedia is not a publisher of original thought, rather than just the third ("Personal essays")? (Please ping me; I've given up on my watchlist.) WhatamIdoing (talk) 00:40, 26 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

propose move testcases page, which is really an essay, into userspace

[edit]

I propose to move Template:Essay-like/testcases, which is an essay and not a test case, to the original editor's userspace (User:Gliteapple/Humour) without waiting for the editor's response if there is none, as the essay would be appropriate there but is not appropriate here (this is not for a template), the page has no other history, a redlink near the top suggests the proposed destination may be consistent with the editor's past intent, and the editor has had very little history with editing Wikipedia and that history is not recent. I'll wait a week for any response. Nick Levinson (talk) 21:55, 9 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Moved. The redirect was redirected to the template page and the testcases talk page was not moved. Nick Levinson (talk) 00:35, 24 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
