Edit request

[edit]

Please replace the first instance of "biographical article" in this template with [[Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons|biography of a living person]] to clarify that this template is intended to be applied to biographies of living persons only, rather than all biographies. The second instance, which reads "improve this biographical article", should simply be replaced with "help", the way other templates word that phrase.  Not done for now: This change will need the establishment of consensus first, as it will affect the display of a number of pages. Bellezzasolo Discuss 01:21, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Bellezzasolo: This change was made to the major maintenance templates ({{BLP sources}}, {{More footnotes}} and {{No footnotes}}) a couple of years ago without controversy. The intention that this template be used only for BLPs is, in my opinion, quite clear when comparing it to other templates. See the BLP specific section of the navbox, where the other templates actually link to the biographies of living persons policy (in fact, I'm not sure why this one doesn't), as well as the fact that BLP is literally in the title of this template. Nevertheless, I can ping to some other template editors if that would make you feel better. Compassionate727 (T·C) 02:29, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Done Looking at those discussions I'm making the change. If anyone objects to the new wording, I'll follow BRD, ping me and I'll make the rv. Bellezzasolo Discuss 12:54, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

RfC of potential interest

[edit]

An RfC is underway that could affect this template and may therefor be of interest to watchers of this page. The discussion is located at Wikipedia talk:Twinkle#RfC regarding Twinkle maintenance tags that recommend the inclusion of additional sources. Thank you.--John Cline (talk) 05:42, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request to complete TfD nomination

[edit]

Template:BLP primary sources has been listed at Templates for discussion (nomination), but it was protected, so it could not be tagged. Please add:

{{subst:tfm|help=off|1=Primary sources}}

to the top of the page to complete the nomination. Thank you. 🐶 EpicPupper (he/him | talk) 21:14, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

TFD withdrawn. 🐶 EpicPupper (he/him | talk) 21:37, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Functionality has been added to generate the standard "find sources" links as seen at templates like {{unreferenced}}, {{more citations needed}}, and their section wrappers or analogs. The /doc at {{Primary sources}} is better than here, but I added a minimum list here (there was nothing before) and left a pointer. Probably the Usage and Parameter sections here should both be expanded, and new Examples and TemplateData sections should be added as well. Mathglot (talk) 09:20, 17 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Usage on recent deaths

[edit]

Is it technically possible to change the template text when it's used on a biography that's in a "deaths" category? Or should this be added as an option, or an additional template?

I've noticed an editor reasonably removing instances of this template from a biography article within days of the subject's death, reasoning that the subject is no longer a "living person" - but WP:BLP still applies to the recently deceased.

(Replacing the templates with mere {{Primary sources}} ones upon death would lose the important instruction that Contentious material [...] must be removed immediately.) Belbury (talk) 09:10, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
