Merge

[edit]

The notability of the person, Magnus Manske, is only due to the notability of MediaWiki. The only notable thing we can say about him is in one sentence - he coded the first version of MediaWiki. It doesn't seem this article will be expanded unless he comes and write about his own life, a practice that is frowned upon. There are many precedents here of redirecting the founder of an organization to the organization's article.--Jiang 00:46, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There has almost been a month of silence here. This page was merged using the proper procedure as outlined at Wikipedia:Merge#How_to_merge_pages. The afd vote has no bearing here - only consensus matters. If you object to a merge, please provide sufficient reason here to gain consensus before reverting. --Jiang 18:39, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I strongly concur with Jiang. We simply do not have the sources to write a biography of Manske. He's a great contributor, and everyone loves MediaWiki but he's not a public person. I hope that we can avoid having a needlessly divisive afd debate on par with those of Erik and Angela. Before recreating this article, please provide a handful of published sources on this talk page demonstrating that there are sufficient biographical facts for this article. As the sourcing standards for biographies of living persons have increased dramatically since January 2006 (and certainly since the 2005 afd), I believe that the burden rests with those who oppose the merger to provide some sources here for scrutiny first. I disagree with this redirect. I was confused as to why I got redirected to MediaWiki, and though you can find a sentence about him on the page there are also mentions of him on several other pages, such as history of Wikipedia and history of wikis. Why not just delete the page and let people view all of the search results (which basically act as an index entry) rather than sending them to one specific page. New version

[edit]

Several new sources and books have been written in the interim, and several reference Magnus' role; I've rewritten the article, based on a German version but extended it somewhat with references. --Obi-Wan Kenobi (talk) 20:14, 21 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Criticism

[edit]

Why is there no section "criticism"? Currently the article looks like advertisement for Magnus Manske. 78.55.189.119 (talk) 05:10, 4 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

There's no clear reason to include add a criticism section, and as far as I can tell, there are no notable controversies involving Manske. If you think the language violates WP:NPOV, that's one thing (though personally, I don't see that). Otherwise, criticism sections should generally be avoided (see WP:CRITS).
