The validity of this article as a news story is, as written, disputed. Wikinews does not publish reports on events that are not sufficiently recent. For synthesis, new details must have come to light within the past five to seven days, and the news event itself must have happened within ten days. Unless sources can be found and a news event chosen to bring this article into compliance with those requirements, the article may be deleted. If any new details from the last five to seven days are newsworthy in their own right then an article could be written with these updates as the actual news event. Exceptions are possible where original reporting adds significant new and newsworthy information to the article.
Please try to resolve objections on the discussion page, or move the article to Wikipedia or another sister project where it may be more relevant. |

On Wednesday, a Arab Israeli citizen named Jawwad Omar Rubia from Nahf stabbed two people at a shopping mall in Karmiel, Israel. They were taken to Galilee Medical Center. One of the victims was later pronounced dead, with the other being treated in an intensive care unit. Northern District Police Chief Shuki Tahauko said that one of the victims "neutralize[d]" the stabber. Police said that it was a "suspected terror attack."
Hamas called the attacker "one of the heroes of our people." Palestinian Islamic Jihad also said on Telegram that the stabbing was a "heroic operation." Israel Police spokesman Eli Levy said that "we are familiar with this type of attacks, and we need to rule out the possibility that there are additional terrorists." He also said that "incitement to terrorism is running rampant on social networks" and that "we are destroying a lot of terrorist infrastructure and thwarting many attacks." Nahf’s mayor Muhammad Zuri said that "we hope it [(the attack)] will remain an isolated one."
This came amidst the recent escalation after the October 7, 2023 attack. The attack killed 1,139 Israelis, including 373 members of the security forces, 695 civilians (including 36 children), and 71 foreigners. In addition, nearly 250 Israelis were taken hostage. During the attack, more than 3,000 Hamas gunmen crossed the border, as well as nearly 6,000 rockets were fired. Sources indicate numerous acts of sexual assault resulted during this conflict. Thousands of rockets are also reported to have been fired during the attack. In response, Israel declared war on Hamas and mobilized 350,000 reservists. Up to May 2024, Israel says they have killed 14,000 terrorists and 16,000 civilians during the war, while Hamas says that 35,000 people have been killed.
