sims3 update

Hi all,
I've been having issues with the new update for Sims3. When I first accepted the update, sims3 just suddenly stopped playing on my laptop. Then my laptop was overrun with bugs within a couple of days. Was horrible.
Cleaned and reset the laptop now and installed sims3 again, I didn't accept the update on launcher and went into game, but without this update, it won't allow me to connect to my account and therefore cannot access my gameplay or my expansion packs.
It's also been completely horrendous trying the get in touch with an actual member of customer support.
If anyone has any information or advice, I would be grateful. Thanks
