Gordon Freeman's logic against aliens:

START

Crowbar it to death
Did it work? A/B/C
where:
A=Yes
B=No
C=Yes, but alien has ranged attack

If B or C: Use bullets
Did it work? A/B
where:
A=Yes
B=No

If B: Use explosive weaponry
Did it work? A/B
where:
A=Yes
B=No

If B: Boss battle. Use some kind of trickery/environment till it stops breathing/functioning.
OR
He/she/it is an ally. Stop wasting ammo.
