Post news Report RSS Little Walks #4: Final environment

On the art department we've reached the final environment art for this vertical slice, including color studies for the 3 seasons where the game takes place.

On the last article where we talked about the environment we finished with the final models made on blender. This time we did some improvements on those models and started to build a map with them.

The landscape will be plane and simple, with a linear road that the player follows and a river to add visual variety.

We did some variations of the trees and bushes. An important note is that the leaves seem weird because of the way they were done in blender, but when they got into unity they will look bigger and with better texture.

The models directly on the landscape seemed a little bit off, so we came to the conclusion that the time to get a little bit of texture and study the colors finally came.

We really liked the color palette that we initially thought for the initial in-game mock-up, so we implemented that color palette and it really enhanced the whole scenario. Also we decided to put texture on the road but not on the grass since it will be covered by the grass, bushes and trees when looked from the isometric perspective, adding texturing will be just adding noice to the final scene.

For the first bridge texture we tested a more detailed look, but it clearly didn't worked out with the cozy art-style, so we decided to match up with the rest of the environment and just make horizontal lines to represent the different pieces of wood.

Then we come to the color testing for the three seasons (fall, winter and summer). For this we choose a color palette that could match the one of the summer, but for winter and fall, and then we tested the saturation in order to come to the better option.

For now we have not chosen any of these options for every season since we want to make the color studies of the characters first and see with what options they work better, but until then this is the blog of this week.

Have a nice week!
