Installation Instructions in case the website goes down:
Instructions
- Install Deus Ex on your PC, if it isn’t installed already. Once installed launch the game up to the title screen and then exit.
- Download GMDXv9.0.3. Find the link above.
- Run the downloaded GMDXv9.0.3_Setup.exe installer and follow the necessary steps provided within.
- Once installed, always launch GMDX from one of the three PLAY_GMDX shortcuts. Once you launch, a menu will pop-up. Do not fiddle with the “Data Directories” menu unless you know what you're doing. The configure menu can be tweaked to your liking though.
Requirements
If you can’t play GMDX (got an error regarding 0xc000007b or VCRUNTIME140.dll not found) it is likely because you don’t have the necessary Microsoft Visual Studio 2015 runtimes: Download
GMDX requires Windows Vista or later (e.g Windows 7, 8, 10). Exceptions can apply… [To be updated]
GMDX supports English, French, Spanish, German and Russian Languages. Ensure you have the respective language-supported version of Deus Ex itself beforehand.
Steam and GoG users can ignore the following: GMDX requires that your game version is 1.112fm, if you have an original non-GOTY version, install the v1.112fm Patch.
General Info
Windows 10’s Windows Defender has been known to sometimes block the installer.exe from launching. Should this happen right click the .exe, go into properties and unblock it. Anti-viruses in general can be heavy handed with false-positive reports.
It is highly recommended that Deus Ex vets in particular check out the Game Mechanics page before beginning.
Inventory shortcuts, mantling, scope zoom in/out, leaning additions, there’s many new game mechanics that aren’t fed to you on a plate in-game.
Guide to running GMDX through steam.
Note that even if you’re using the steam version of Deus Ex you do not need to even launch steam to play GMDX. Just run the Play_GMDX shortcut.
Streamers/lets players: use the DirectX10 render, otherwise recordings/streams on the viewers end comes out ~20% darker than what’s on your screen. Alternatively just crank up the brightness, but this is a last resort if you can’t figure out how to get the DX10 renderer running.
I know what i'm doing tonight ;)
Just me, a few candles, a fiiine bottle of wine and the sexiest mod/game ever.
Thanks again for the hard work you put on this mod!
No problem.
Check the website for installation instructions: Gmdxmod.com
Nothing but the best box of wine money can buy for me!
And those who don't have it yet - shame, shame 😂️😂️😂️ - GOG.com offers GOTY Edition for just 0.99 EUR (~1 US$).
Awesome, downloading ASAP.
Thanks, I've waited for this mod for quite a long time. I have one question though: can I somehow run GMDX through Steam, with playtime counter and overlay? I don't want it as a non-Steam game, but right now it seems to be the only way to play it.
Navigate to Add a Game -> Add a non-steam game then select one of the Play_GMDX shortcuts.
Thank you for a quick reply, but it seems to be working via Kentie's launcher as well. I set the load order as follows: GMDX -> HDTP -> New Vision, and it seems to be working so far. Maybe someone else will find it useful.
If you're not using the shortcuts it's probably not pointing to the right ini files which can appear to be fine at first but will turn out not to be fine later.
So is it possible to play the Steam version with the mod, with overlay/playtime counter? Could you explain to a noob how to do that?
instructions for setting up steam with the overlay/counter are on the website (scroll down): Gmdxmod.com
Along with other general info.
You're really missing the point. People want to play it with the Steam playtime counter still going. You can't do this if you add it as a non-Steam game or play from the shortcut.
1. Rename your DeusEx.exe to something else like DeusEx.exe.bac
2. Rename GMDX.exe to DeusEx.exe
3. Go to Deus Ex properties in Steam, select "set launch options"
4. Below is a string to put there, just replace paths with yours:
INI="C:\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\Deus Ex\\GMDXv9\\System\\gmdx.ini" USERINI="C:\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\Deus Ex\\GMDXv9\\System\\GMDXUser.ini" -skipdialog
(comment section auto-replaces back slashes with doubles back slashes, use the signles)
(last flag is to skip kenties launcher and go directly to game)
5. Done, now whenever you launch Deus Ex from steam you're playing GMDX
Nice job man! I'm going to play this RIGHT NOW.
I've been waiting since the announcement of 9.0 to play through Deus Ex again, I am so freaking stoked right now.
Well this is a nice surprise, thanks for all the hard work and our patience Total, I know what I'll be doing for the next few hours, been waiting for this ever since you announced it.
Enjoy all.
Is the menu supposed to be gray in 9.0 because i remember it being blue in 8.0?
One more thing, i remember the user interface being smaller in 8.0, in 9.0 i can basically see the pixels how large it is.
Everything else is flawless tho.
You can change the menu/HUD colors in the main menu (options->colors)
As for the UI, In kentie's launcher (the menu you get when you first launch the game) in "configure" there is an option called GUI set it to "1x" and it will be smaller and cleaner.
Thanks man.
Hi first of all thank you for your great efforts
However I'm having a problem each time I try to run GMDX.exe
it give me this message
"this application was unable to start correctly 0xc00007b.click OK to close the application"
I have already tried to run it as administrator
FINALLY!Thank you for your dedication, Totalitarian and friends! \o/
Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
first of all thank you very much! will donate later once again. But I get an error (Windows 10) when I click start after choosing the difficulty Level
Assertion failed: InPos<=Size [File:D:\DeusExe\games\DeusEx\core\inc\FFileManagerWindows.h] [Line: 57]
Change window settings. Full Screen/Borderless Fullscreen/Windowed.
Do this via the "configure" menu when launching the game.
thx, but makes no differences :(
btw: the error is about DeusExe, so I've just downloaded DeusExe and copied it over the vanilla game - this works fine! But how can I get GMDX get to work?
Rename the exe to "GMDX"
Then launch from the Play_GMDX shortcut.
you mean I should rename the DeusExe-exe to GMDX.exe? I had tried this already, but as soon as I launch from gmdx shortcut the error occurs
Having the same problem. In my case the transition from Liberty to Unatco-Offices triggers that.
Did the window settings thingy...no dice.
Shelving it, until solution appears.
Played the versions before (since v6), no issues.
Alright, maybe this helps some others with this problem, it did for me.
Started the launcher, went to Data Directories, deselected New Vision, made the transition, no problem.
Saved inside Unatco, left the game, selected New Vision, loaded the save, no problem.
Since then this issue did not happen again. Being at Battery Park now.
So it didn't happen with older versions of GMDX, and it fixed when disabling hi-res textures temporarily? Interesting. thanks for figuring that out.
No, older versions were fine. The second visit at UNATCO was also crashing with the error above. Until now it only happens when entering UNATCO.
But the trick still did it...
EDIT: The newly patched version (9.0.1) does have the issue, too.
Thanks, mate. This mod is the reason why I just bought Deus Ex on steam
Found a glitch with shadows in a crouch mode (i think it occurs only with new weapon models). Youtu.be
Is there a way to fix it?
Another thing is a light arong burning barrels - seems too blurry. Looks like the screen is blinkng.
No mod uninstaller?
Still can't delete quick and autosaves...
nice
First time user here. Looking for how to enable cheats/console commands on medium difficulty. I have tried the points layed out in this article on both GMDXuser.ini and User.ini. What am I doing wrong?
Press T. Backspace Say. Type "set deusex.jcdentonmale bcheatsenabled true" (without the quotation marks) and you should be able to use cheats by pressing T, backspacing Say, and typing in the command.
Hi :) Is there a way to custom the scale of subtitles, menu, icons, and such? It's so big and can't find any setting how to reduce it. Playing with Direct 3D 10
when launching the game via the Play_GMDX shortcut a menu will appear. Click on "configure" and there is a custom GUI scaling option in here.
Thanks a lot. Thought this setting was in game as default. :) Now it's ok.
For those who use D3D10 renderer there is an option to switch a classic lightning to a more vibrant:
While in game press "t", delete word "say" and type "preferences", hit enter.
Under D3D10 settings set Classic lighting to False.
Disappearing trees
Aggressive object occlusion. Engine limitation.
There probably are workarounds though.
I'm experiencing freezes when calling any menu (like inventory screen), the game seems to "hang" for about 5-8 seconds before showing it.
It definitely didn't happen in the beta.
Also I'm playing on Realistic and enemies seem to be too innacurate when I'm crouching (only like 1 in 20 shots hits me). I'm on the first level though and they still kill me very quickly if I stand up or get close to them.
Change renderer.
Have secondary weapons been removed with this edition?
No.
.............Oh i'm psyched up!!
Played v8 for a while whilst waiting for v9 to be released. With v8, the graphics were good but in v9 I am now unable to up the resolution beyond 1440x900 as it resorts to the lowest resolution if I attempt to do so. As I said, v8 was not a problem and have not changed anything at all.
