V2-0-2: Read Me updated.
Description:
All world maps (Capital Wasteland and DLCs, minus Mothership Zeta) have undergone an AI upscaling process and are now in 4K resolution. The standard resolution is acceptable for the Pip-Boy screen, but I wanted a higher resolution option.
This mod started as something made for personal use, but since I achieved a result that I found minimally satisfactory, I decided to share it with the public.
Installation method:
Use your preferred mod manager and install “Fo3 World Maps Upscaled - Experimental v2-0-2.7z” like any other mod.
Conflicts/Incompatibilities:
Since this is a texture replacement mod, any other mod that alters the maps' textures will conflict. The one with the highest priority wins (and it should be this one).
There are incompatibilities with JIP Fast-Travel Anywhere because that mod was made with the original map resolution in mind (1024). As a result, the DLC maps will not be displayed correctly. Another issue is that JIP FTA has its map for the Capital Wasteland and therefore does not load the 4K map by default.
The DLC scale problem – as far as I understand – could be resolved if adjustments were made to the file called “ftaHUD.xml” located in "path to your mod installation folder\JIP Fast-Travel Anywhere\menus\prefabs\jazzisparis". The user will find that line 35 has the following value:
<_Scale> <copy src="parent()" trait="_MapSize"/> <div> <copy> 1024 </copy> <sub src="me()" trait="_Edge"/> </div> </_Scale>
Hypothetically, if the user changes the “1024” to “4096”, the same resolution of the upscaled maps, they would be displayed correctly. I will not provide edited files from another mod.
<_Scale> <copy src="parent()" trait="_MapSize"/> <div> <copy> 4096 </copy> <sub src="me()" trait="_Edge"/> </div> </_Scale>
While this could solve the DLCs maps issue, the Capital Wasteland map provided by JIP FTA in "JIP Fast-Travel Anywhere\textures\jazzisparis\fta" – named dcwasteland.dds - would not fit the entire screen because of its lower resolution (1024px). Also, the map borders are cropped differently, excluding the non-explorable borders. I had cropped one of my upscaled Capital Wasteland maps similarly (named "wasteland_4096_no_map_borders.dds") and it's on the mod folder. Hypothetically, the good old "rename and replace" should work here. I will not provide edited files from another mod. You'll have to do things manually with the texture I upscaled.
Credits and Permissions:
All textures upscaled are vanilla game assets.
You can do whatever you want with this mod. I don't care.
