What You Should (And Should Not) Do While Traveling To TennoCon 2024

There's a smidge of uncertainty that comes with traveling, especially for anyone making an international trip. So, to make things easier for everyone, we've outlined essential dos and don'ts during your trip to TennoCon!

Do:

- Keep your passport handy

For international travelers, you must have a valid passport or travel visa to cross the Canadian border. Keeping that information on hand while going through customs is critical! For example, don't keep your photo ID or travel documents in a checked bag while flying.

- Check if you need an eTA Card

Another tip for Tenno traveling internationally: Anyone arriving from outside of the U.S. or Canada may first need to acquire an eTA Card. You can find instructions on how to apply for an eTA Card, as well as exemptions and other necessary information, at this link.

- Be aware of sales tax

Sales tax isn't always part of an item or service's price listing in Canada. Ontario, in particular, has a Harmonized Sales Tax (HST), which adds an extra 13% tax on whatever you purchase within the province. If you buy something that comes out at a higher cost than the vendor lists, just know ahead of time that this is why!

- Understand the metric system (at least a little)

If you're traveling from the U.S. (or any country that uses imperial measurements), please note that Canada uses the metric system. Meaning, for instance, that street signs will list long distances in kilometers rather than miles. This shouldn't impact how you get around very much, so long as you’re staying close to the convention center, but it’s good to keep in mind when you're out and about!

- Bring an umbrella

While we (obviously) can't predict the weather during TennoCon ahead of time, there's been a lot of rain in London in the months leading up to this year's show. Stuffing an umbrella or raincoat in with whatever bags or backpacks you may bring is a safe bet. It can't hurt, at any rate!

- Wear comfortable shoes

You'll be on your feet a good deal while traveling and while at TennoCon itself, so treat them right! This might be a no-brainer for people who have attended conventions before, but try to wear comfortable shoes that you can walk in for hours without your feet getting sore. Your body will thank you later — trust us.

Do Not:

- Don’t bring weapons to the convention

Any sharp or blunt instruments — and especially firearms — are not welcome at TennoCon. Props for cosplay are fine, but they can't be items that could easily harm another person. A fake prop ax made of foam rubber is probably fine! An actual ax is definitely not.

- Don’t be rude or harass other attendees

It's simple: Be kind and respectful to everyone around you at TennoCon. There will be a zero-tolerance policy for anyone harassing convention staff, attendees or anyone else at the event. TennoCon is a special event that brings Tenno together only once a year, so let’s keep it a positive experience for all.

- Don’t disregard site rules or convention staff

This one is pretty straightforward. If someone working at TennoCon tells you not to do something, don't do it! There will be a couple of areas at the convention center that are off-limits to attendees, for example, so don't ignore any signage or official staff that tell you not to go somewhere.

- Don’t bring winter gear

Contrary to popular belief, winter doesn't last year-round in Canada! In addition to the rain, the weather has been awfully warm in London of late — regularly hovering around 30°C (86°F). So be sure to bring your summer wardrobe!
