Worries over security.

A total of 95pc of companies see IT security as a major concern that outweighs physical threats such as terrorist attacks, according to a survey from the CBI.

The report backs up findings from the Global Information Security Survey showing that worldwide, 65pc of businesses have experienced a worm or virus attack in the past year, compared to 45pc in 2003.

The Federation Against Software Theft (FAST) has now set up an IT Security Group to tackle a wide range of security-related issues.

Topical problems currently include firewalls, biometrics, content security, policy management, authentication and mobile security. John Lovelock, director general of the Federation, said: "Breaches of IT systems are clearly a growing problem, the gravity of which cannot be underestimated.

"Lack of security loses business, damages the reputation of the IT industry and causes understandable concern amongst customers. That said, it is important to eradicate scare-mongering ( with its not-for-profit foundations, The Federation is ideally placed to offer impartial advice about the best way in which to deal with the issue."

The IT Security Group assists FAST's 3,000 corporate members to address their security concerns and receive much-needed guidance.
